A Letter To James Layfayette Boyd, December 20, 1862

This is a letter to James Lafayette Boyd, 1820-1905 SC

December 20th 1862

Camp Pritchard Hardeeville S. C.

Dear Sir,

Mr. James L. Boyd

I take this present opportunity to write you a few lines to let you know that I have got back to camp and is but very little better than when I left. I hope these few lines you are all well and doing well.

I have no news of important this time. It's(?) quiet here on the coast. I expect you have heaard of the Bloody Battles in the West. It makes our heart trouble to hear of our neighbors and friends getting slain so in heaps and piles.

Men are ordered out in the Ridge_________or not. It looks like it will take all the men and leave the Poor Distressed women and children to suffer.

Well James if you and Aunt Ely wants some salt write and as soon as you gets this an I will send you some. I would have before now but I haven't been able to get about. But I hope I will be able to soon. Salt is very high. It is selling at ten dollars per bucket.

When I get it I will send you the price. I send my love an best respects to Aunt Ely & all the children. Well James I believe that I have give you all the news of important an it is getting cool. We have right smart of cold weather

so farewell for the present.
