New puppies are always LOTS of fun and ohhh so cute!
Our club does fund raisers each year. The money from our events goes toward purchasing harnesses for our puppies that make it as guide dogs. It also helps us cover travel expenses. Here are a bunch of our members and parents cooking for a bake sale and then sitting at the booth.
Club members often travel long distances to go to event with our puppies. Some events we go to each year are Oregon State Fair Guide dog Day, Oregon Campus Fun Day, Guide Dog Training Days and Guide Dog Graduations. These events are great learning experiences for our puppies and younger members. Photo above shows club members involved in "juno" training, learning what uit feels like to be guided.
Teaching the community about guide dogs is also a big part of what our club does! Here club members read a book about guide dog puppies to a group of young childern at "storytime."
We also present to "older" ages. Our club has presented to MANY local groups over the years, including presentaions at the local and state fair.
Our club always sets up an educational display at our county fair. We have won a blue ribbon each year (and champion several years!)!
Fair time also means PARADES!! Our puppies enjoy walking in parades dressed to various themes each year. The club has also participated in a Christmas Parade.
Canines in Coats puppies are exposed to many people! We enjoy visiting "The Aspens," a local nursing home, and they enjoy our visits too!
A local photographer takes profesional pictures of each set of puppies raised, and individual pictures of each puppy with their primary raiser.
Our club never misses a chance to party! We put on birthday parties for our puppies, birthday parties for our club members, good-bye parties for our puppies (which the comunity is invited to) and an annual Christmas party!
Our puppies experience MANY sights and sounds in the months that we have them.
