The Valley Historic Preservation Commission provides the citizens of Valley with a solid foundation for Historic Preservation.

Thousands of dollars of grant funds have been brought into the city to aquire, restore and preserve historically significant properties.

The entire Valley area is rich with history that deserves preservation. It defines who we are as a people and community. The city's symbols of times and events past have formed the character of the people that compose the City of Valley.

It is with those ideas in mind that The Valley Historic Preservation Commission and it's sub-committees invest many hours of their personal time, to ensure that the citizens of the future will be able to see and understand the rich and varied history of the people and communities that now form The City of Valley.

Some of the current projects include:

  • The Shawmut Kindergarten Project.
  • The "Iron" Bridge Project in Langdale.
  • The Fairfax Depot Restoration.
  • VHPC's Oral History Project.
  • The Covered Bridge Project at Moores Creek in Langdale.
  • The Bethlehem Baptist Church Project.
  • River View School Restoration Project.
  • Further enhancements to the Rails to Trails Project which opened in May of 2000.

As you can see there are many exciting projects going on in the City of Valley. There's much to do and recognition from all over the country on our efforts. Volunteers are needed and welcomed.

Meetings of the Commission and the sub-committees are advertised in the Valley Times News in the Briefly Told section of the newspaper.
