My son (Stephen) is only 8 years o d now but I have let him read all of this page that you have made about your son. It appeared to the doctors that there wasn't a brain noticable in an ultrasound test. After she was born, doctors told me she woouldn't live to be 1 year old. My daughter turned 5 years old on Ja uary 18,1999. I am grateful and I cherish every day I have with her because I am not sure when Amanda's life here on earth will end. If Amanda should go before I do, I know I will remember and count the days I was grateful to be her mommy. So far, she as taught me more than I thought I would ever learn. Hang in there everyone! I did not know him or your family, but I have been in the exact same situation. A little over 4 years ago, I was very depressed, I did everything short of telling my parents but they still did not see it. I finally to k a bottle of pills and realized what I had just done. It was more than enough to kill me. I told my mom what I had done and we wnt to the hospital and I was on life support and the doctere had taken my parents into the chapel to tell them i probably woul not make it, and not to get their hopes up. My greatest gift was that I did make it. But then I also had a very ling road to recovery with medication and therapy. When you decide to kill yourself, you are so engrossed with you own misery that you do not hink about anyone else. That is so missleading because that is who hurts the most. I still have days that are not good, but i have learned that no matter how bad you feel just give it at least 24hours. Alot of things are always better the next day. If not I talk to someone. I am positive that Richie had no idea how his death would affect his friends and family. Or i know in my heart he would have NEVER done this. My thoughts and prayers are with you, . |

It has also been sometime since I've been to his grave. I reread the newspaper article. It seemed so very strange to see my name in there talking about my nephew. I read the stor and once again felt the horrible pain of that night. It still hurts so bad. I dont think it will ever be better for some of us that loved Richie. There really is no getting over this. We all go on but nothing will ever be the same again. With one very qu ck flick of a lighter, life changed for so very many people on Monday night Jan 19,1998.Richie left behind many casualties. I see the walking wounded when the family gathers for an event. We still gather for birthdays and barbques. We even got together on Aug. 2 for what would have been Richie's 20th birthday. We had a great chocolate cake. Did any of us really taste it? We tried to be a comfort to each other that day, and especially tried to be a comfort to Richies parents and brothers. I think the greate t comfort comes from this website and all the people who stop and visit and sign the guestbook. Richie's mom, my little sister, reads this each day. I know that this is a real comfort, or as much of a comfort as anything can be to a mom who has suffered t e unthinkable loss of a child. He may have been 19, but to all of us he was still our "Richie". I hope the angels are taking real good care of him now. God bless Richie and all those left behind. |
