Dunstable & District Aquarist Society

Dunstable & District Aquarist Society.

The first ever meeting was held on Tuesday 28th January 1947 at the Grammar School in Bradgers Hill Road, Luton. At that time it was known as the "Luton and District Pond Keepers and Aquarists Society".
The purpose of the meeting was to form a club for all persons interested in fish ponds and aquaria.
Mr. W.Dacre gave a talk on fish breeding, outlining easy, simple methods of this fascinating hobby. Also on view were a show of fish that were described as rare and tropical prize winning fish.
Today, the club consists of about 30 members at present. We are affiliated to the Federation of British Aquarist Societies and also the Association of Aquarists.

We have members with experience in all aspects of aquatics. Some members have fish houses and concentrate on breeding fish, others just have a single tank in their lounge, in fact one or two of our members currently have no fish at all!..
We take part in and organize open shows and auctions and regularly have guest speakers, slide shows and demonstrations about the hobby on club nights. We also have social occasions outside of fishkeeping for all of the family to enjoy. The club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month 8.00 PM to 10.00 PM at The Peter Newton Pavilion, Skimpot Road, Dunstable. Bedfordshire.

We welcome anybody with like interests to come to our meetings. You do not need to be experienced in fishkeeping; we welcome anybody. After all, we all started in the same place and learned as we went along.

You will not be asked to join on your first few visits, so just come along and see what we do. Alternately, Please take a look at the DDAS web site at: www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~xeno/index.htm
Should you require further information about the DDAS, please email me at: martin_kelly@geocities.com or our club Chairman, Peter Turner at: xeno@globalnet.co.uk
