My Food Chat Schedule & Companion

Please note that I am on hiatus from my food chats until further notice. I may hold one for canning during the summer, but I don't plan to resume chats on a regular basis until the fall. Feel free to participate in all of the wonderful cooking chats being held on ivillage. I'll see you back in the Fall!

I am now holding Food Chats on iVillage.com, the premiere Women's Network! You can join in every Monday, from 7-8pm EST. The chat is easiest if you have Netscape 3.0+ or Internet Explorer 4.0 or better. The topics change every week, with some weeks being open chats, where you choose the topic. If there are any topics you'd like to see, come join us and request them! Please refer back here for future topics. You will find co-ordinating recipes as a companion to my topic of the week, posted several days before the scheduled chat.

Topic for November 16, "Creating DimSum at Home"
November 23, "Open Topic Night"
November 30, "Getting Ready for the Holidays: Food Gifts"
December 7, "Getting Ready for the Holidays: Cookies and other desserts."
December 14, "Getting Ready for the Holidays: Main and side dishes."

December 21, "Open topic"

January 25, 1999, "Cooking Chinese at Home"
February 1, 1999, "Down Home Cooking, Southern Style"
March 8, 1999, "Chinese Soups"
March 22, 1999 "Taste Test" with David Rosengarten
March 29, 1999: Brgs Cooking Challenge Game
April 5 & 12: No Chat, on vacation
April 19: Brgs Cooking Challenge , Round 2
April 26: Brgs Cooking Challenge , Round 3

There are several ways to get to the chat...choose from the following:

To Get There

To get to Food Chat via iVillage.com:

For your first visit, click on the "Welcome" oval (or visit the Welcome Center). Get your password emailed to you, then return to the page.

On the left hand side, in the maroon boxes, look for and choose the "Food" channel. It will take you to yet another screen, "ivillage.com/food".

Click on the "Chat Right Now" oval on the right side. It will prompt you to select a chat software. The html is annoying and you can rarely see or respond to what's going on in the room. The java is ok, but not the best. I'd suggest downloading the iChat software. It's great, easy, and a fast download. When that's done, and your program is ready to go, click on the "Go Chat!" button on the "Select a Chat Software" page.

To get to the Food chat via ParentsPlace.com:

You have to become a member, so scroll down until you see "Membership", and register. Get your password, and return to this page.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you see the iVillage.com logo. Click on "Chat" within that logo (not the arrow buttons).

You are now at "Chat Central". Scroll down, and look for and click on "Food; Casual Chat".

You will be prompted to pick your chat software. Read the above notes on iChat and the others. Continue as you would have by going to iVillage.com.

Come join us! I'll see you next Monday, for more chatting fun!
