Editor's Note: Ken Kifer, the author of the website linked to
below and a marvelous internet friend of mine, was killed while riding his
bicycle only 6 miles from his home. He was hit head on by a drunk
driver who had been released from jail only 4 hours before the
incident for the same offense. Yes, you read it right: Arrested
for drunk driving, spent the night in jail, released, got drunk, drove, and
ended another human being's life.
The incident occured in September 2003.
I'm an avid Bicyclist, not the type you see on the streets regularly; but a little different, a little older, one who cycles because a lot of other things don't seem to make sense. As a bicyclist, I have extraordinary health (without concentrating on it too much!), do not "diet" (although I eat low-fat and stick with whole foods) and don't spend an inordinant amount of cash on transportation.
