Disciplining Children

On the average our children today are not being raised right. I think that America has lost sight of what it means to be a family, to raise your children, and to love your children. I'm not saying that all families are like this but it seems to be the trend. Kids today grow up not respecting what they have, they don't respect authority, and I think a lot of this can be blamed on a lack of discipline. I am not talking about discipline by itself only but discipline out of love. And without going into it deep it has a lot by teaching by example but here I am just looking at discipline. One thing that always has to be the case is that discipline is always to be accompanied by love. That is why someone disciplines their child, because they love them and because they want the child to learn and not make that mistake again in life. When you look at a newborn baby you first see a helpless cute child. When we break down the attitude that a newborn has we see that it needs training in order to become an adult. If a newborn baby were to be the full size and strength of an adult just imagine the mess. Your baby would kill you because it was mad because things we not just perfect. Well what we have today is a bunch of kids running around that are full size babies. They were not disciplined while they were growing up. Here is what the Bible says about disciplining our children and it is the truth.

Proverbs 13:24
24 He who withholds his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.

Proverbs 19:18-19
18 Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not desire his death. 19 A man of great anger will bear the penalty, for if you rescue him, you will only have to do it again.

Proverbs 22:6
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:15
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; the rod of discipline will remove it far from him.

Proverbs 23:13-14
13 Do not hold back discipline from the child, although you strike him with the rod, he will not die. 14 You shall strike him with the rod and rescue his soul from Sheol.

Proverbs 29:15-17
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother. 16 When the wicked increase, transgression increases; but the righteous will see their fall. 17 Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; He will also delight your soul.

God give us an example of a good parent by the way He says that He will treat us:

Proverbs 3:12
12 For whom the LORD loves He reproves, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.

Hebrews 12:6-8
6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.
