Divorce

When you get married you create a covenant with your spouse.  Jesus has a covenant with us, it will not be broken.  Covenants are not made to be broken.  The Lord HATES divorce.  Something that we might have to ask ourselves, if marriage is not from God then why do we get married in a church?  Another thing to think about is why you don't go back to church to get the divorce?  It is from God and this is what He has to say to us about it:

Malachi 2:14-17
14 "Yet you say, 'For what reason?' Because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. 15 "But not one has done so who has a remnant of the Spirit. And what did that one do while he was seeking a godly offspring? Take heed then, to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of your youth. 16 "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with wrong," says the LORD of hosts. "So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously." 17 You have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet you say, "How have we wearied Him " In that you say, "Everyone who does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights in them," or, "Where is the God of justice?"

The only time that God ever says that divorce could be an option is if your spouse was unfaithful to you.  Now unfaithful doesn't mean that you don't get along or that something that they do bothers you.

Matthew 5:31-34
31 "And it was said, 'Whoever sends his wife away, let him give her a certificate of divorce'; 32 but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the cause of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery. 33 "Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, 'You shall not make false vows, but shall fulfill your vows to the Lord.' 34 "But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,

When you marry someone you two become ONE.  And God says that no man is supposed to separate that ONE.  Don't marry if you aren't sure!

Matthew 19:3-10
3 And some Pharisees came to Him, testing Him, and saying, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause at all?" 4 And He answered and said, "Have you not read, that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, 'For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and the two shall become one flesh'? 6 "Consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." 7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give her a certificate of divorce and send her away?" 8 He said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart, Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." 10 The disciples said to Him, "If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry."

Mark 10:2-12
2 And some Pharisees came up to Him, testing Him, and began to question Him whether it was lawful for a man to divorce a wife. 3 And He answered and said to them, "What did Moses command you?" 4 And they said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." 5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 "But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. 7 "For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother, 8 and the two shall become one flesh; consequently they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 "What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate." 10 And in the house the disciples began questioning Him about this again. 11 And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; 12 and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery."

Luke 16:18
18 "Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and he who marries one who is divorced from a husband commits adultery.

1 Corinthians 7:10-17
10 But to the married I give instructions, not I, but the Lord, that the wife should not leave her husband 11 (but if she does leave, let her remain unmarried, or else be reconciled to her husband), and that the husband should not send his wife away. 12 But to the rest I say, not the Lord, that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, let him not send her away. 13 And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, let her not send her husband away. 14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. 15 Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace. 16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? 17 Only, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each, in this manner let him walk. And thus I direct in all the churches.

I does not ever say that getting a divorce is an unforgivable sin.  The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. These verses are so that you will know ahead of time how sacred marriage is.

If you are in a relationship that is having problems and one option that you are looking at is divorce, well there are other options.  God can do things that you can't imagine if you just have faith in Him for it.  God can put a love in your hearts for each other like none other.  You just have to ask and believe.  Marrying someone that you weren't sure about may have been a bad choice but just because you made a bad choice doesn't mean that God's going to abandon you.  God will work with you:

Romans 8:28
28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

And notice it doesn't say "God causes all things" but that He causes "all things to work together."  He will work with you to get through it if you give your life to Him.  For more on putting your faith in Christ for these types of things see: " Put Your Faith in Christ For...."
