Additional Projects and Activities

The chapter supports and encourages education and the study of American History in local schools by annually conducting essay contests from grades 5 through 12. An average of fifty medals a year are presented to the outstanding essayists.

We also encourage good citizenship by presenting awards to one representative Senior from each high school in the area who best demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen, dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

The chapter contributes to the St. Joseph County Scholarship Fund as well as numerous DAR scholarship funds.

The chapter is involved in remembering and contacting our veteran patients who are residents in local facilities as well as the Indiana State Veterans Home in Marion, Indiana.

The chapter provides study manuals for those immigrants wishing to become American citizens. We attend all naturalization ceremonies and personally congratulate each candidate for citizenship. Flag code pamphlets which describe the correct usage and display of the American flag are presented to each candidate courtesy of the chapter.

The chapter also actively supports preserving the history and marking historic sites of the area.
