Deb's Favorite Old TV Shows

Black and White TV With Rabbit Ears

Hi everybody. Thought I'd share some of my favorite TV shows with you from the past. Remember when there used to be something GOOD on TV? Seems every night of the week there was something decent to watch. I've provided some links to other websites that I thought you might enjoy. Here they are (in no particular order) and have fun!!

I LOVE LUCY

The Ricardos and the Mertzes

My favorite show of all time is I LOVE LUCY. I especially like the part where they take the trip to California and meet all the stars. I never get tired of watching the reruns over and over again and when they aren't being shown on local tv, I have them taped to "tide me over" until they are. Even after watching them for so long and so many times, I still laugh at the goings on between Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel.

    I DREAM OF JEANNIE

    Jeannie

Another of my favorite shows is I DREAM OF JEANNIE. It was the story of astronaut Anthony Nelson and what happens when he finds a bottle on the beach. He opens the top and POOF! - out pops a genie. I remember watching it when I was young and being fascinated with Jeannie's harem costume and all the magic she could perform. I even tried "blinking" things myself, but of course it didn't work!

    BEWITCHED

    Endora, Darrin and Samantha

The next in my list is BEWITCHED. This show was about Darrin and Samantha Stephens and how their lives are put in a turmoil because Samantha is a witch. Darrin's life was made made miserable because of the constant "dropping in" of Sam's relatives: her mother Endora, cousin Serena, uncle Arthur and aunt Clara to name a few. They changed poor Darrin into everything under the sun plus put lots of spells on him. This was another show where I was mesmerized by the magic and even taught myself how to twitch my nose like Samantha but once again, I couldn't perform her magic!

    PERRY MASON

    Mason and Street

Another of my favorites is the old PERRY MASON series. This hour long drama featured a murder and Perry Mason, with the help of his capable secretary Della Street and detective Paul Drake, would find the killer just in the nick of time to save his client. Usually the guilty party would break down and confess on the witness stand under Mason's barrage of questions. I remember watching these shows when I was about 7 years old and have never tired of them. Many of the episodes were based on the books written by Erle Stanley Gardner (Mason's creator). Through much scouring of second hand book stores, I have managed to collect every paperback that Gardner wrote featuring Perry Mason - about 70 in all.

    TWILIGHT ZONE

The next show is THE TWILIGHT ZONE. The original series of TZ is a great collection of episodes presented by creator Rod Serling. Each story was superbly acted and had a moral behind the tale. It featured many guest stars such as William Shatner, Jack Klugman, Robert Redford, Lois Nettleton and Carol Burnett to name a few. Although Serling did not act himself on any of the episodes, he came on and "submitted" them to us. I think everyone has their own favorite episodes and a few of mine are "To Serve Man", "A Stop at Willoughby", "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", "Where is Everybody?", and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street". Who could ever forget that surprise ending at the end of "To Serve Man"?

    THE OUTER LIMITS

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR TELEVISION SET. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it fuller. We can change the focus to a soft blur, or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: There is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to

Each week those ominous words brought usTHE OUTER LIMITS. Like the Twilight Zone, this anthology series featured many actors who became famous later on such as Bruce Dern, Ed Asner, David McCallum, Martin Landau and Martin Sheen. These stories were more science fiction oriented dealing with space travel, aliens, etc., but it was still an excellent series. As usual, everyone has their own favorite episodes and some of mine are "The Man Who Was Never Born", "The Zanti Misfits", "A Feasibility Study", "I, Robot", and "The Probe".
