Master Sergeant Easten Fontenot, son of Ulysse Fontenot and Alecia Taylor, was born in Port Barre, Louisiana in 1916 and grew up there during the height of the great depression.  He was a hard working, hard playing member of what Tom Brokaw has called this country's "greatest generation".  He joined the army at an early age and served the country valiantly through two major wars, World War II and the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and numerous campaign ribbons in the process.  He retired from the Army and made Baton Rouge his home until his passing in January 1999 after a long illness.  He is interred at the Port Hudson military cemetery.
