I am interested in finding a picture of the Roby family seal or crest. There was a complete family history done but somewhere over the years it was lost. All that I know is that the Roby name can be found in the old records of Rochestershire County in Eng and back into the 1500's when a roby was granted a vast tract of land for a favor to the King. His his brothers changed their last names to Robi and Robey at this time. The crest and family seal have the sheaf of wheat, cinqfoil, and blue and gold colors. This is all that I really know from research that my Father Stephen L. Roby done at Colson Library in Morgantown W.V.. Any information that you may have would be appreciated.

I'm originally from Hooksett, NH, one of the NH Robies. Our line goes back to John Roby (1455) Castle Donington Then through Thomas(1501), his son Thomas born in 1536, and his son Thomas born in 1571. The next generation for us begins with Thomas's son H nry born in 1618 and who came to NH in 1636, where a town called Robietown was established. That town is now called Weare, NH. Henry changed the spelling to Robie. I've visited the original Roby house in Castle Donington and have a picture if anyone is i terested.

Your web sight is outstanding. I wish I could tie into your family back in Maryland, but I have a couple of missing links in the mid-1700's. Most of the males in my direct line have the first name of Benjamin as I do. The one exception is a Great grand ather named Aaron, born in 1837. His father was Benjamin as was his grandfather. I am interested in SARAH ROBEY born in 1689, to John Robey and Sarah Luckett in Charles Co., MD. My original source shows she married EDWARD DARNALL (first Darnall in my line who arrived in the colonies in 1688, indentured to Phillip Lynds to pay off s ip's passage and owned 300 acres of land in Chales Co. by 1727). Recently, another source claims the SARAH ROBEY, b. 1673 - d. 1738, who married Edward Darnall was the daughter of JOHN I. ROBEY, b. 1613 - d. 1688, and SARAH BERRY, b. Interesting to see several Roby names who are searching that I also know. Just recently became a member of the Roby Association. My GGrandfather was one of the many John Roby's but is from the Wigan/Blackrod, Lancashire area which so far has not been co nected to the Leicestershire Roby line but are presumed to have a link. My John was orphaned or at least put into a work house as a baby and therefore my search has been very hard. In June I go to England to have a look at the places I know he and my GG andmother Ann Hulme lived. The came to the U.S. in 1879 and lived in Pennsylvania. Cambria County and Somerset County. Anyone knowing any of this family would be a great help. Many of the family went on to Ohio. The Hulme family went to Illinois? En oyed this site and will look around it more. Love to get genealogy email!

Bill Roby and I are in the process of discovering a heretofore unknown branch of the Roby family of Maryland and Bath and Harrison Co., VA. Patrick Roby, son of Patrick, with maternal lines of Johnson and Buchanan, c) 1740-1790's. Many of these lines, i cluding the William Tripp family settled finally in Hocking Co., Ohio in the early 1800's.

My ascendency is from William Harvey, the maltster, who settled at Chadd's Ford, Pa., 1712, and married Judith (Deuce) (formerly Mrs. Peter Osborn) , born Bilston, Stafford, England about 1680. Son William, Jr., brother of your Issac and Martha Newlin li e, who married Ann Evitt, sister of Mary, daughter of Frances, had a son Peter. Became Justice of the Peace for the 3rd (Birmingham District) of Chester County in 1820. Married to Jane Walter, daughter of Godwin Walter and Jane Brinton. He had a son, a so named William who lived near Harvey Bridge, and was married to Mary (Wilmot, Pyle or someone I have not yet been able to determine who was not a Quaker). There was a seperation among Friends beginning in 1827. Wm and Mary had sons William, Caleb, Amo F(ranklin), Jesse Wilmot, and daughter (Mary) Lydia and Mary Ann. I have much information on the family and narrowed prospects for research in Old England. Am interrested in the manner in which these people may have been tempered by their station. The e were 22 members of the Pennsylvania Colonial Assembly ,most of whom served between 1707 to the time of the Revolution, including when B. Franklin was its clerk, who were either members of this family or married to descendants of founders. Have accumul ted much information, although the most valuable of all is a geneaology that was first published in 1895 by the Scot, Wm J. Harvey, that is a geneaology of Wm Harvey, the Physician. The geneaology was contained in the Library of Congress since 1910. It tates the last of Thomas' line, the businessman for the Grenville expedition, founders of the Lost Colony of Roanoke; and William, the Physician's father, died in 1833. The Hanover Settlement, shifting reign from the Stuarts was made during the first dec de of the 18th Century, thus becoming Great Britain from England. I have some original documents, photographs, and other information for your Issac and Martha line, mostly the family who went to Ohio after their Carolina venture in 1810.

Have run into LIGGETTs in Indiana, but my files are somewhat disorganized. My grandmother's maiden name was LIGGETT; family in Oregon in 1845, came from North Carolina and LIGGETT data dates back to about 1790. Not a very common name--we always thought Irish, though I have wondered if its Scotch.
