I enjoyed reading the comments. My John Peacock comes from Burton, Overy, England. He moved to Iowa and married there and then disapeared. He and his family worked in (Coal?) mines in England. Sure would like to know what happened to him. This was around 1850??? I am just starting to research this line. Anyone heard of the run away? He is a mystery to us all...

In case you're interested Peacocks over here are spread over most of the country but mostly where there was property formerly held by the Lord Egremont, in Yorkshire, Northumberland and in Sussex and Hampshire. Good luck in your search.

I was born in Feb. 1940, and lived across the street from George and Lucy PEACOCK on South State Street in Sac City , Iowa. I think George died in the mi to late 1940's. Very nice people. Think they had a son named Dennis or Ennis who worked for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. Thanks for allowing this visit. Terry B. Hardy Carlisle, Iowa

My Gt. Gt. Grandfather was Dr. James Corbitt PEACOCK. I have not been able to confirm his birth other than in History books, they say he was born 11 Sept. 1809, in Harrisburg, PA. I have not had any luck in securing a Birth Cert. or any information from P . that confirms that. I have been searching for a long time for relatives of his. I read that he had a brother living in Boston, MA. around the mid 1860's (Thomas) I have records that he lived in Richmond, Ky. in 1940. He also had land in Richmond, Ky. Dr. James Corbitt PEACOCK married Eliza PORTER in Richmond, Ky. I have 2 dates 8 Jan. 1840, and 8 Dec. 1841. I think that the 1840 date is correct. Children---- M. Edwin Robert, b. 14 July 1842, Richmond, Ky. M. William Sargent, b. 7 July 1844, Richmond. Ky. F. Martha Elizabeth, b. 28 Feb. 1846, Richmond,Ky. F. Caroline, b. 10 March 1848, Harrodsburg,Ky. M. James Corbitt (Jr)b. 20 Apr. 1850,Richmond,Ky. M. Thomas Francis, b. 2 Sept. 1856, Chinese Camp, CA. ("Gold Rush Town") F. Emily, b. 1 June 1858, probably on the family Farm near Chinese Camp, CA. F. Sara Jane, b. 26 Aug. 1862, place ? F. Florence Ellen, b. May 1863, San Bernardino, CA In History books and records it states that Dr. James Corbitt PEACOCK, had a Drug Store in Chinese Camp, CA. in the mid 1850's, and I have the records that show that he owned a Farm near that area also. He then moved his family to San Bernardino, CA. in or around 1860. He was a Medical Doctor, and owned a Drug Store, and also was the Postmaster for the town of San Bernardino, CA. I have not had any luck in the "Southern PEACOCK Fomily's. He was not the only PEACOCK that lived near Richmond, Ky. Census Records record a PEACOCK Family living near Richmond around 1810, but I cannot fit him in. He also went by JC PEACOCK, James PEACOCK, and in later years just Dr. JC PEACOCK. I would appreciate it if you would pass this information on to other sources. If you have any information on this Family I would like to here from you. If I find anything that I have in my many pages of notes over the years that might be of help in your search, I would be happy to share it with you. Thank You, Lenny Hennan, LHSHCH@AOL.COM P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR, and I hope this is the year both of us find something new, for our Family Tree.

Hello cousins, I have been browsing your web site at: /Heartland/Prairie/1755/Historyo.html Good job, and very interesting. I don't know how far back our connection is, but it is probably in England. I note that your ancestors George and Mary Peacock came from England in the late 1820's. My partiular line came over prior to that, moved down the east cost and into North Carolina for awhile, and then up into Indiana in 1817. The branch moving into Indiana from NC were Quakers. Most of the other Peacocks from that line went South instead of North. There is a larger group of Peacocks that formed "The Peacock Family Association of the South". This group is comprised of individuals from most states in the Union, and many individuals are actively searching their roots. You can find out more about this group by visiting their web site. This is a new site and is undergowing construction, but you can get a good idea about it. I would encourage you to check it out. Information on membership and benefits can be found on the membership page. At the bottom you will find the name of Don Peacock who keeps our computerized genelogical records and has somewhere around 25,000 or 30,000 names. Would enjoy hearing back from you and would be happy to exchange genealogical data with you.

He moved to Iowa with the Harris family when he was ~17 yrs. and married Martha)Mattie) when they were in Iowa. I have some conflict about his parents names.
