I have been collecting pocketknives for almost 15 years. Like so many other people I thought "Why would anyone want so many knives?" Knives, and their uses, are an excellent history source. From the first crudely made knives to the latest "collector" knives, some with 100 blades, you can see how knifemaking has evolved through time. The tiime and care put into some of the early Sheffield, England knives rivals the custom knives of today. There are many great knife collector books on the market today that feature everything from the early knives to the modern production run knives. There was even a "one-armed man's knife" that featured a curved blade with a fork at the end. There are a multitude of local knife shows and clubs across the world where you can see various assorted knives and meet the makers and collectors. Most collectors try to collect one style of knives, or one brand of knives or one handle material, but some of the most unusual collections are amassed of various knives. No matter what you collect, Knife collecting is a fun way to meet some of the best people in the world. My hat's off to the folks who have the patience and skill to create a truly fine hand-made knife. Their skills are something to see. HAPPY KNIFE COLLECTING!
