Clements Delay [Re Res] - page - State of Illinois} Winnebago County } On this third day of March AD 1879, per- sonally appeared before me a Clerk of the circuit Court in and for the County aforesaid, Chlorinda Goff, a resident the city of Rockford in the County afore- said, aged 78, who being first-duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration, in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress, of Mar 9, 1878. That she is the widow of Elisha Goff, who was a private, in company --- commanded by --- in the war of 1812, & who served at the battle of Plattsburgh - who enlisted (as she thinks) at Sk[reu]sboro or Newtown in New York State, who was honorably dis- charged from said service & who died at Shirland, Winnebago County Illinois Sept 7, 1869. She further declares that she was married to said Elisha Goff on the 3d February, 1825, at Sullivan, Pennsylvania, & that she has remained a widow ever since the death of her said husband as aforesaid, as will [sworn] [petty] appear & proof [bereoitta] [teeueswilled], she also declares that she has not in any manner been engaged in or aided - page - or abetted the rebellion in the United States. She further appoints E. W. Blaisdell of Rockford Ill. her attorney in this case and agrees to pay him $10 for his services. Chlorinda Goff Seal Also personally appeared Ellery Wood and F. L. Taylor residents of the County afore- said persons whom I certify to be respectable and settled to credit, & who being by me duly sworn say that they were present and saw Chlorinda Goff, the applicant, sign her name to the foregoing declaration, they fur- ther swear that they have every reason to believe [poree] the [affearcern] of the applicant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be and that they have no interest in the pros- ecution of this claim. March 24 "1879 Sir: In the claim fo 35210 of Chlorinda Goff as widow of Elisha Goff for a pension under act of Mch 9 "78 you should furnish the names of the Captains or other officers under whom the soldier served in the war of 1812, or the testimony of two comrades showing that the soldier served under the same Captain and at the same time with themselves or if possible the number of land warrant procured by soldier, it being impossible without such data to ascertain the service of the soldier Please return this letter with the evidence Very respectfully E.W.
