Links

Friends of Terriers wishes to endorse the best of the breed, and related topics that might interest all responsible dog owners. Here are links I think FOT visitors might be interested in.

The APBT As Friends of Terriers is no longer actively involved with rescue, following are several reliable groups that are: One of the best around and for whom I have the highest respect is Bad Rap (Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pit Bulls). They were instrumental in both evaluating Michael Vick's dogs and in providing many of them with both foster and permanent homes. Their site is a wealth of information about the breed; Pit Bull Rescue Central is a broad resource and virtual shelter for those who care for the APBT, Am Staff and Staffordshire Bull Terriers; Spindletop Refuge rehabilitates and rehomes APBT's and Am Staff's nationwide although located in Texas; the Chako Rescue Organization, an in-depth resource for the APBT; and The Real Pit Bull another resource for infomation. If you care for or are interested in the rescue of a pit bull terrier, you may want to check out these sites.

Great APBT
Stuff
If you've been looking for quality pit bull terrier merchandise that doesn't glorify dogfighting, stop by Preservation Publishing - books, tee shirts, and much more. All products support the very best of our breed.

What's Up? As you may be aware, the APBT, as well as other breeds, are coming under fire in lots of places in the U.S. Want to know what's happening with breed specific legislation across the country, (and the world), and how it could affect you? Visit the Breed Specific Legislation page and the American Dog Owner's Association site. (Not just for the APBT)

Have A Healthy Dog Nothing beats a healthy dog with a shiny coat with a love for life. Consider a favorite Friends of Terriers recommended food, Natural Life, or read about another of the top foods, Solid Gold. Also, when looking at health and emotional issues in your APBT, consider holistic treatment - more natural, safer and addresses the whole (ergo, holistic) dog - read more about Holistic Veterinary Products page. One last stop --- all dog foods are processed with some vitamin loss. For an excellent natural supplement, you may want to read about Nu-Pro.

Resources! And here's the absolutely best site for references and resources about EVERYTHING DOG! -- the American Dog Trainers Network. This isn't just about dog training -- it will help you find ANYTHING!! Don't miss it!!

"They Never
Complained"
And on a completely different topic ... if you have one shred of patriotism in you, and a love of dogs, please visit the United States War Dog Association home page. This is a realistic and moving account of the dogs and their handlers that served in the Vietnam War, the first American war in which our nation's military dogs were left behind. At long last the United States has a war dog memorial to give tribute to the more than 40,000 dogs that served in WWI, WWII, the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. Visit the site to see photos and a write-up of the dedication of the memorial. By the way, the most highly decorated dog in our military history was an APBT named Stubby in WWI.

Other Bully Rescues As many problems as the APBT is having in the U.S., the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is having in Great Britain. For a look at the tragic problems this pint-sized powerhouse is having in the U.K., and the devoted souls who are working tirelessly to re-home them, please visit the Northern Area Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue page.

And then there's an even smaller bully that no one could imagine would need rescue, no less suffer abuse ... the French Bulldog. With its gain in popularity, unscrupulous breeders both here and abroad have been creating wretched puppy mills for this petite sweetheart. Learn more at the French Bulldog Rescue Network's page.

Bully Art And last but not least, I'm going to refer you to a site that loves the bully breeds in art - my own. Whether for printed items such as notecards, stationery or prints or if you would like a portrait done of your cherished animal(s), find it at my site, Jeanne Balsam - Graphic Design and Animal Art - your stop where bullies rule.

Friends of Terriers hopes you enjoy the above links. There'll be more coming as time goes on. Check back from time to time.

Please Note

Friends of Terriers does not endorse any form of dogfighting, be it streetcorner fighting, organized dogfighting, or rolling one's dogs for any reason. As the new millennium approaches, and as violence in the world seems only to escalate, it would appear that we could at least spare our animals from the painful results of the so-called "blood sports". It would seem that we could focus on the many other aspects of this magnificent breed without bringing them to injury and death.

Some APBT sites to which Friends of Terriers provides links, despite their positive view of the breed may, in turn, link either directly or indirectly to other sites which promote or passively condone dogfighting and/or endless breeding. However, the link provided to the initial site is always because of its positive content.
