BUNKO

Once a month, I play a dice game called bunko with a group of friends. If you have heard of a bunko site, let me know at vavra@mr.net. I have looked but haven't found one. Bunko is entirely a game of chance. Because it involves no skill whatsoever, aside from the ability to converse while rolling dice and making hash marks on a scoresheet, it is an ideal game to play at the end of a long day!

Bunko is played with three dice. Each game has six rounds - one for each face on a die. In the first round, you roll for ones; in the second round for twos, etc. Your turn continues as long as you roll at least one of the number of that round, or three of a kind. Scoring is simple - for each "round" number, score a point. For three of a kind for any number except the "round" number, score five. For three of the "round" number, shout "BUNKO!" and end the round. The bunko wins the round, regardless of points scored. Unless there's a bunko, play each round until a player or team reaches 15, 21, or whatever.

We play at tables of three or four, and we change tables and partners between games so that we can talk to different people throughout the evening. We also allow plenty of time for snacking and conversation between games, and end the evening with dessert. To make things a little more interesting, we play for prizes, provided by the hostess (in case you haven't guessed by now, this is a "girl game"), who is reimbursed out of the evening's ante.
