~Not everyone needs to be producing animals~

Animals are God's Creatures, too!

I was reading the classifieds in the Des Moines Register today at lunch. There were so many ads for puppies, it was sad...I don't think reputable breeders generally have to put ads in newspapers. They may advertise in trade publications or newsletters, but many good breeders have buyers already lined up for the puppies or kittens, or they are willing to keep the animals themselves. My feeling is that these ads were "backyard breeders" who buy pets from petshops and then breed them without certifying hips or eyes, without ever evaluating how the parent animal stacks up to the breed standard... The worst was some one advertising "Pimbroke Welch Corgis". If they can't even spell it right, what can they POSSIBLY know about the breed???? Okay, now I'm on my soapbox!!!!!! If only certified animals with a good show record were bred, there would be fewer dogs and cats in the world. That would increase the value of each individual animal. Shelters would always have spare cages. We wouldn't be having to euthanize thousands of perfectly good pets daily...as we now do in America. Overpopulation cheapens the value of their lives and makes them expendable. My soapbox here will be well used !

Save A Bird

Spay and neuter your companion animals. Leave breeding to responsible, knowledgeable breeders. Every year fifteen million fine dogs and cats are euthanized in America. This is no way to treat our best friends, so when it's time to adopt a new family member, go to a shelter and SAVE A LIFE. Thank you for visiting my home page. MaryAW (Animal Woman to my friends)
