My Trip To Sheep Springs Horse Camp in Oregon
with My Sisters, Niece, and Daughter
June 2008

Left to Right:: My sister Cindy on Blueberry, my daughter Heidi with Misty, my niece Bobbie on Max, my sister Carla with Buddy, and me with Guy.

In June of 2008 I spent 9 days camping in the Deschutes National Forest at the Sheep Springs Horse Camp in Oregon. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because my sisters live in Idaho and Colorado and I live in California.

We began planning the trip the previous year and found a location we could both drive to from Idaho and California, that was Sheep Springs.

My sister from Colorado flew out to Boise Idaho and drove out with my sister and her daughter and her two horses. I drove three hours to my daughter's home with my two horses a couple days early. Picked up her, her stuff and her horse and we headed off to to Oregon. Boy was the truck and trailer loaded! We had to bring enough feed and supplies for 9 days.

We had a great time on the drive, except for the flat tire on the trailer just outside of Anderson Calif.! Fortunately a very nice CHP pulled up just after we stopped along side the freeway and call AAA for me. They had the tire changed in no time and the officer gave us directions to a nearby tire shop where I had to buy a new tire ($200!). With the tire delay it took us 12 hours to get to the camp ground. However it was worth the drive, the scenery was fantastic, the roads good, and the truck was running great!

The campground was really great and our sites were next to the only water in camp, which had to be hand pumped. I tell you by the end of the week we were pumping like pros!

The trails were in pretty good condition, although there was a lot of downfall due to the big storms they had in the winter. However the weather was perfect, no rain and in the 70-80's all week. Everything was still green and the flowers were still blooming.

I really recommend this camp if you can go, it's only about 30 miles north of Sisters which is a great town. Be sure to get a hamburger at the hamburger stand off the main street!

Here are some of the pictures I took, enjoy!
