My Edmondson Family

My Paternal Grandmother was Zella Lee Edmondson, Daughtor of William Columbus (Lum) and Mary Emmaline(Emma)Pryor Irvin."Emma Pryor Irvin" is on the back of her picture that hung in a big oval frame in my grandmothers bedroom.I know she had a brother named John Pryor so I dont know where the Irvin name comes from or why it is given. The picture was given to my father by his mother and when mother died I inherited it. Irvin may have been a previous marriage name. I just dont know

In the last couple years I have gained a great deal of information on my Edmondson line that previously was unknown to any one in the neighbor hood where Samuel Edmondson and Martha McNinch are berried at Oakgrove Cemetery Perry Co. Arkansas. Samuel and Martha J. were the parents of William Columbus my Great grand father and Zella Lee Edmondson was my grandmother. She married James Wesley Yielding.

I loved my Grandmother dearly and she was so wonderful and loving to me. She was born in Tennessee possibly Giles County. The Edmondson family and came to Arkansas when she a child. She told me she grew up on Petit Jean Mountain where her father was a Grade Inspector for Robinson Lumber Co.

I have many pictures of Grandmothers family that I will share with you. Hopefully someone will be able to connect with my Edmondson Family and give some history. I do not know where they came from to this country, but W.C. and some of his ofspring were large boned Redheaded Freckled Skin Folks with a twangy nasal accent.

Grandma Zella and my father Marley Littleton Yielding.

Oakgrove Cemetary Perry Co. Arkansas are: William Columbus Edmondson born 7/4/1867 Died 1/4/1945 and was laid to rest at Oakgrove Cemetary, Perry Co. Arkansas. His grave is beside his mother and father which are marked Grandma and Grandpa Edmondson. For me Confusion sets in. My grandmother was born in or near Nashville Tenn. As a young girl her family lived on Pettit Jean Mountain in Conway Co Ar. W.C. Edmondson was a grade inspector for Robinson Lumber Mill. This was on the S/W end of Petite Pean Mountain.

Recently I received this information from/By Sonjia Jean Stevens ....

"My info for my great grandfather, Samuel J. started with his death record. It states that he was born Nov. 2, 1858. I knew it should be in TN. Giles Co. It also said that his fathers name was also Samuel, and his mother was Martha J.E.McInish/McInich I ordered the 1860 census for Giles Co. TN and found the family.

In 1860 census: Samuel age 28, Martha J.E. age 26, Robert age 7, Mary E. age 4, Susan age 3, and baby SAMUEL age 1. (My grgrandfather) Next door is Thomas and Nancy ages 64 and 65. I think this is Samuel seniors PARENTS ! In the 1870 census this family is as follows: Samuel 39, Martha J.E. 37, Martha S. age 13 (must be Susan in the 1860 census) Samuel age 11, W.C. age 4, and J.L.R. Foust age 20, Mary E. Foust. This is James Richard Foust and his wife Mary E. Edmondson Foust living in the home with her parents and siblings.

(I question the marage of James Richard Faust and Mary E. Edmondson Foust at that time as she would have been only 14 and him 20. I do know they did marry and raise a family.) Your W.C., and my Samuel ! In 1880 census of Lawrence Co. TN the family is as follows: Samuel age 49, Martha age 47, William age 16, John age 10, Thomas age 7, Charles age 5, and Ellen McNight 42 as Servant/Cook. My Samuel is not here with his family, and I have not found him for 1880 ANYWHERE !*? I can't find him married with his wife and children. I know he married a Nancy/and or Josephine Busby, and had 4 children. Mary Leona (my grandma) Luverne, and Josephine. A son said to have died young and I have no name for him. My grandmas mother was said to have died while the kids were young and still at home, but I have no clue when or where this took place. Mary and Luverne were born in Lauderdale Ala. but Josephine was born in Luxora Ark. So I have looked in these places. No luck!" I am hoping to piece together my Edmondson line with the help of my new found cousins. The above was wrighten by Sonja Jean Stevens a grandaughtor of Samuel Edmondson.
I have pictures of Grandmother Zella & Graqndpa Jim Yielding at the lumber camp on Thornburg Mt.Perry Co. Ar. I am told that Zella and children Lela and Lonnie lived on the "Old Edmondson Place" which is about 1 1/2 mi. from Houston just off 216 High Way near May cemetary. Oliver Lawson (86 years old)who still lives in the area went to school with Lela at Houston. GGpa William Columbus Edmondson had a large sawmill and lumber yard on Foursh LaFave River at that time. Evidently this was part of the old Edmondson property. Noah Strong Edmondson owned the old Edmondson place. Who was Noah and what relationship was he to W.C. and G.T. Edmondson?

This is information I received from Bill Edmondson. "NOAH STRONG EDMONDSON LEFT CULLMAN, ALABAMA IN ABOUT 1895 AND ARRIVED FIRST AT SOLGOHACHIA,ARKANSAS. STAYING THERE FOR ONLY A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME HE AND HIS SIX SONS AND ONE DAUGHTER MOVED TO HOUSTON, PERRY COUNTY, ARKANSAS. HE DIED IN 1906 AND IS BURIED IN THE MAY CEMETARY JUST OUTSIDE OF HOUSTON, ARKANSAS, ON HIGHWAY 216." I have information saying that MAY Cemetary, Katharine Horton Edmondson was born 11/15/1883 d. May 19, 1927 N. S. Edmondson was born 1841 and died 1906. Mary E. Edmondson born 10/7/ 1864 d 6/1917

This is a picture of the W.C. Edmondson family. W.C. Is the older man on the left I have all the names on the back of the photo but it is packed away at present. The older woman is W.C; wife Emma, then My grandmother Zella Lee Edmondson Yielding, holding Lola, who died at age 2. the little boy in overalls is Lonnie Columbus Yielding son of Zella and Jim Yielding. Jim is the man with the dark coat and hat beside Emma.

W.C Edmondson is in the middle, daughter Pearl is the woman to the left and her daughter Ople on the right .

This is Samuel Edmondson, (son of W.C.) and first wife Nina Adams Edmondson, children are Irving & Nellie. Samuel married Missouri after Nina's death, having no children from this mirage. Irving married Dora Rory daughter of Dud Rory. Irving and Dora had 2 children Jimmy and Lynn.

This is a picture of William Edmondson son of W.C.

There were other children of W.C., They were Connie, Nina, Bessie,Ted and twins Wesley and Leslie.

I have information on Martha J McNinch from the Holy Bible, Family Record of George J Thomson of Tenn. who married Mary N McNinch of Tenn. Mary is Martha's sister. Martha and Robert Reed her grandfather, with whom at least Martha lived with, in 1850 were witnesses to Marry Ann McNinch's wedding to George J Thumpson on Aug 8, 1847. According to the 1850 Giles Co Tenn. census District #5 26, of Oct 1850 Robert Reed 69 years of age and wife Elizebeth 66,Martha was 17.

Samuel Edmondson is 18 listed as next household on the page P # 741 Handwrighten and Stamp # 317. Samuel appears to be living alone as no one is listed with him. This info was provided By Deanna Fuss
