Meaning Behind the Cosmos

Milky Way Galaxy

The planet we inhabit is a well designed sanctuary for sustaining life. Its characteristics are "just right" in many respects that profoundly allow our existence.

The Planet Earth
Water dominates both our planet and ourselves as being a dynamic sustainer of life. Water itself is a miracle with its unique physical properties engineered to sustain life.

Our planet is unique in its positioning and even its tilt relative to the sun and moon. Our environment is sustained by our moon that is optimally located to stir the waters on our planet. The location of our planet relative to the sun precisely enables temperatures that are conducive to life. There are too many "coincidences" that trouble the notion that the universe and our existence are a result of chance.

The Earth's only satelite, the Moon

Beyond our planet's uniqueness is the wonder of life. Lifeforms are wonders of intelligent design. This includes our sensory organs and all the processes that are performed sustaining our lives. Beyond our senses in a sense of beauty and wonder around us in living things that chance has no purpose in sustaining.

Throughout our existence mankind has sought to put our existence into perspective. The vast complexity of the cosmos, the design of the earth and its inhabitants testify to the forethought of a Designer.

The Creator of the universe certainly has the ability to also reveal the knowledge of His intent to mankind. This matter was the subject of a visitor to Athens in the first century whose appointment was to communicate knowledge of the Creator. This man, known as Paul, was stirred as he noticed the material objects made be these people attempting to honor the source of existence. As he spoke throughout the city he was invited by the educated philosophers to speak at the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new teaching is, which is spoken by you? For you are bringing certain strange ideas to our ears and we want to know what these things mean.

Now all the Athenians and the visitors there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell about or to hear some new ideas. Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus, and said, Men of Athens, in all things, I perceive that you are very religious. For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I set forth unto you.

The God that made the world and all things therein, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life, and breath, and all things; and he made of one every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek God, and perhaps they might reach out to him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that God is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and device of man. The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent.

Paul was encouraging his listeners to be impacted by the reality of their origin. The impact of acknowledging our Creator is profound. Not only are we explained but everything is put into perspective. For in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; and he is before all things, and in him all things consist.

My hope in writing this and making this available on the web is to challenge you to think on these things, and to collect more information. Paul himself was impacted by God, in His incarnation - visiting the earth to reconcile mankind through the person Jesus Christ. Recognizing that we are not the result of chance, but the product of design as revealed by all that is around us and His written revelation to mankind. Please visit other locations on the web that testify to God's revelation and reconciliation and seek His instruction directly in His word the Bible. May its truthfulness and power being a blessing to you. Thank you for your patience in reading this.
