Colossians 2:12
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

There are three points on baptism that we must examine.

  1. How is baptism to be performed?
  2. What is baptism for?
  3. Who's name is involked in baptism?

And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

NEW TESTAMENT BAPTISM UNTO LIFE

Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

WHAT WAS AND IS THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IN NEW TESTAMENT BAPTISM?

The name JESUS was used:

"in the name" Means authority, in the authority of!

Jesus gave keys to heaven. Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Authority to posess-keys Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

PETER RECEIVES POSSESSION OF KEYS

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

THE KEYS ARE ACTUALLY USED

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

THERE ARE NO QUOTES OF THE WORDS SPOKEN AT BAPTISM

The book of Acts is written as history with the Church in mind. Not as a theological religious manual.

Luke does reference a name in the act of baptism!

What was relevant in all baptisms?
