Grassroots Activism

What is it?

When Congress is in session and debating education issues, periodic CRER alerts and updates are e-mailed to members. They provide information on the bill in question (including its number designation), contact data, and suggested action on the bill. When Congress returns from its winter recess in January 1998, links to "sample" letters will be added to this site.

How can I participate?

• You can become informed about the issue(s) that interest or concern you, and contact public officials by calling, writing or e-mailing them.
  
• You can start a petition drive to gather signatures supporting your position on an issue, and submit the petition to the appropriate government or corporate representative.
  
• You can call radio talk shows and state your position publicly.
  
• You can write op-eds for your local newspaper or send letters to the editor of a wide variety of newspapers and magazines.
  
• You can speak to community, civic, church groups about the issue.
