2. WILLIAM A.² HITT (WILLIAM RUSSEL¹) was born Aft. 1832 in Perry County, Ohio, and died May 11, 1898. He married SARAH JANE RUTLEDGE 1852 in Near Newark, Licking County,Ohio, daughter of ABRAHAM RUTLEDGE and SUSANNAH.

Notes for SARAH JANE RUTLEDGE:

Sarah Jane's Mother died when she was three years old and her father died when she was seven years old. She was the second of three children. She spent two years with a maiden aunt named Betsy Rutledge, then was bound out to Mrs. John Hull until she was 18 y.o. The next three years she worked as a domestic in different homes. J.W. Hitt was an excellent marksman and had shooting matches with Buffalo Bill Cody when he came to the area. ( According to Hitt family article in Williams County Family Histories, article written 1977.)

Mildred Cora was a homemaker and loving mother and grandmother. She was quiet but loved to laugh and had the respect of all who knew her. Even though the family was poor during the depression, Mildred would give food to the hobos and homeless that passed through town.
