Ship Queen Victoria 1843
Jacob Casanova (circa 1797 to circa 1847), had at least three children in Switzerland. Jacob and three children left Europe during 1847 on the ship Queen Victoria (pictured below during 1843) which departed from Germany and arrived in New Orleans. The ship's passenger list listed Jacob's children who came with him: Mary (called by her middle name, Katherine), Jacob C. (called Jake), and Martin. Two other persons were listed with Casanova for their last name, but that appears to be an error because their last names were Rohner. The person listed as Anton was Joseph Antoine Rohner who later married Mary Barbara Katherine Casanova. The person listed as Thomas was Thomas Rohner.
The ship Queen Victoria was built during 1828 in Bath, Maine. It had a water displacement of 711 tons. That makes it about the length of two Greyhound buses and about the width of two Greyhound buses.
The ship Queen Victoria was portrayed in the above painting called Queen Victoria--A Close Call Entering Le Havre by Henry Smartly. Le Havre is a port city in the Normandy area of France. Smartly painted during the period 1839 to 1848. This painting was done during 1843. This oil painting can be found on display in the Peabody Essex Museum, East India Square, Salem, Massachusetts.
