Last Sunday a wind blew through this Church. It was the wind of (Acts 2:2 KJV) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. God showed us His precious Holy Spirit, He wants us to experience His fullness, He doesn't want us to be a luke warm Church anymore. He has called me to tell you about His Spirit because many of you do not have the fullness of the Spirit and He wants you to have it. You must have it to experience Gods fullness for your life. (Eph 5:18 KJV) And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
1. TODAY THE CHURCH IS LAZY, ASLEEP, INDIFFERENT, NON CARING, SELF CENTERED, WORLDLY, LUKEWARM
(Rev 3:14 KJV) And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
(Rev 3:15 KJV) I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
(Rev 3:16 KJV) So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
(Rev 3:17 KJV) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
(Rev 3:18 KJV) I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
(Rev 3:19 KJV) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
(Rev 3:20 KJV) Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
(Rev 3:21 KJV) To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
Scripture: Acts 2 The outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the church. (Read Acts 2)
(Joel 2:28 KJV) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
Opening: The work of the Holy Spirit was a special gift for the Church for after Jesus Christ was glorified (went to be with the father) to be used by all Christians to carry out the work of Jesus Christ on earth until he returns.
a. All Christians, this was before man had a chance to build all kinds of denominations, this was the early church, the first church.
(John 7:37 KJV) In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
(John 7:38 KJV) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
(John 7:39 KJV) (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) (They that believe, these were believers not sinners he was talking about)
1. Luke 24:45-53-The great commission, This is the same scripture as Acts 1:1-11
a. Jesus was giving the last commandments to his disciples about the Holy Ghost and about the purpose of it. He was talking to disciples, believers, this was a work in addition to there salvation experience. This is what they needed to carry out Jesus Christ's work on earth until he returns.
2. John 14:23-26-Jesus tells the disciples he is going to send the Holy Ghost to help them when he is gone.
(John 14:23 KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
(John 14:24 KJV) He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
(John 14:25 KJV) These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
(John 14:26 KJV) But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(John 16:26 KJV) At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
(John 16:27 KJV) For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
3. When Jesus ascended unto the Father he tells us he then sent the promise of the Father the Holy Ghost to help us.
(Acts 2:32 KJV) This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
(Acts 2:33 KJV) Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
I. Specific Work After Salvation -
A. Acts 19:1-7
(Acts 19:1 KJV) And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
(Acts 19:2 KJV) He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
(Acts 19:3 KJV) And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
(Acts 19:4 KJV) Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
(Acts 19:5 KJV) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
(Acts 19:6 KJV) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
(Acts 19:7 KJV) And all the men were about twelve.
B. Acts 8:9-19
(Acts 8:9 KJV) But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
(Acts 8:10 KJV) To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
(Acts 8:11 KJV) And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
(Acts 8:12 KJV) But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
(Acts 8:13 KJV) Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
(Acts 8:14 KJV) Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
(Acts 8:15 KJV) Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(Acts 8:16 KJV) (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
(Acts 8:17 KJV) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
(Acts 8:18 KJV) And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
(Acts 8:19 KJV) Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
II. Tongues the Evidence of the Baptism.
(1 Cor 14:21 KJV) In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
a. (Isa 28:11 KJV) For with[1] stammering lips[2] and another tongue will he speak[3] to this people.
(1 Cor 14:22 KJV) Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
(Mark 16:17 KJV) And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
(Acts 2:3 KJV) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
(Acts 2:4 KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Acts 2:11 KJV) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
(Acts 2:12 KJV) And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
(Acts 2:13 KJV) Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
(Acts 2:14 KJV) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
(Acts 2:15 KJV) For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
(Acts 2:16 KJV) But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
(Joel 2:28 KJV) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
(Acts 10:44 KJV) While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
(Acts 10:45 KJV) And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. "God ment it for everyone"
(Acts 2:38 KJV) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
(Acts 2:39 KJV) For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
(Acts 10:46 KJV) For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
(Acts 19:6 KJV) And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
A. Tongues is the evidence of the baptism it was then and it is now.
a. God has picked the most vile part of the body to take control of.
(James 3:5 KJV) Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
(James 3:6 KJV) And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
(James 3:7 KJV) For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
(James 3:8 KJV) But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
(James 3:9 KJV) Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
(James 3:10 KJV) Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
b. It is our part of the body that we don't want to give over so we make excuses and arguments why we don't have to speak in tongues given by the Holy Spirit to be baptized. Thats just that old lying tongue speaking out.
c. Tongues is the prayer language, it is the gift of prophesy, the gift of tongues, why wouldn't some one that says they love Jesus want this precious gift God has given us.
d. Why wouldn't a person that loves Jesus Christ want to be baptized in the Holy Ghost.
e. We sure allow this world to baptize us, the devil to baptize us but not God.
III. Why do I need the Baptism?
(Acts 1:8 KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
A. Power, look at Peter
(Acts 2:14 KJV) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
B. It brings a greater deminsion of God than we have ever experienced.
(John 14:10 KJV) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
(John 14:11 KJV) Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
(John 14:12 KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
a. Greater power than we have ever experienced.
(John 16:7 KJV) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
(John 14:13 KJV) And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
(John 14:14 KJV) If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
(John 14:15 KJV) If ye love me, keep my commandments.
(John 14:16 KJV) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
(John 14:17 KJV) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
(John 14:18 KJV) I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
