Cats Diet

I feed a raw natural diet as I feel cats do better on it as they are carnivores. Also looking at the ingredients in the kibbles available I don't believe they will do well on such rubbish as by products and chicken fat. So herewith my basic diet!

NATURAL RAW DIET.

1 Kilogram (2.2lbs)of normal beef mince – raw (Known as hamburger in the USA)

Don't use lean meat - they need the fat.

250 grams chicken liver –cooked or raw and chopped finely

4 slices of brown bread OR 4 Weetbix OR 1 cup cooked rice OR 1 cup oats

(if you use oats pour 1 cup boiling water over and allow to stand)

1 Cup water

Optional: 2 Cups cooked frozen or fresh veggies ( NO onions) Mash well

(they love pumpkin, squash, potatoes etc.)

5  heaped teaspoons Vita-mineral Mix.

Mix well and freeze in suitable size containers. Serve at room temperature.

You can  add cottage cheese, eggs etc for a change of taste occasionally

VITA-MINERAL MIX -adapted from Anita Fraziers' Book 'The Natural Cat'

3 cups powdered Brewers yeast.

1 cup kelp powder

2 cups lecithin granules

1 cup bonemeal or calcium carbonate

1 cup wheatgerm flakes

1/2 cup Vitamin C powder

2 cups Alfalfa powder

Mix and store in airtight container in a cool place.

(All ingredients are available from a health shop)

For weaning kittens and supplementing new Moms try giving them Kitten Glop. Recipe below:

KITTEN GLOP.

1 can evaporated milk..

1 sachet(2 teaspoons) gelatine dissolved in 1 can boiling water.

2 tablespoons real mayonnaise.

2 egg yolks

2 tablespoons plain yoghurt

1 teaspoon Honey

1 capsule acidopholus.

Mix well and store in fridge. It will set like jelly. Take out as much as is needed and warm in microwave - it will turn to milk again.  For small quantities you can pour into ice cube trays ,freeze and just take out a block at a time. Once the kittens have tasted it you can add a baby rice  cereal to it to make a nourishing porridge.
