Sonshine Nursery School

Sonshine Nursery School is a part of the mission outreach program of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and as such, the purpose and goals of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church become the purpose and goals of Sonshine Nursery School. As stated in the constitution of this congregation, the purpose of the church is: "It is the will of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that His disciples should preach the Gospel to the whole world so that Christ's mission for His church might be carried out according to His will. He has commanded that Christians unite in worship, to provide for the Christian training of the young, practice fellowship with one another, and serve the needs of all men in Christian love. (Eph. 4:7-16) Christians are also to administer the Office of the Keys of His church and to maintain decency and order in the church."

In addition to the stated purpose of the congregation, the purpose of Sonshine Nursery School shall be to bring to little children the message of God's salvation, and to provide to parents support in the Christian nurturing process while the child is in a loving, educational environment.

It is a known fact that the early training of children is most significant training that he receives. Sonshine Nursery School offers a Christian education that recognizes the need to provide a loving and caring atmosphere which will foster spiritual, social, physical, emotional and intellectual growth in the young child. Our aim is to work with the parents to enrich the childrens' lives and build a Christian foundation in the early years that will be an asset throughout life.

The role of the Christian nursery school is that of satisfying the needs of the child in the following areas:

1. The need to trust:
   • His Lord's will in all of life's situations
   • His parents who love him
   • His teachers who support his parents in their efforts
2. The need to explore:
   • His senses
   • His vocabulary
   • His capabilities
   • His environment
   • His creative abilities
3. The need to live with others
   • Sharing
   • Taking turns
   • coping with life

In acknowledging these needs, Sonshine Nursery School will provide the child with a setting of consistency and stability. In that setting the child will develop an interest and joy in learning and the feeling of security, success and responsibility.
