HOURS OF SERVICE

The hours of service State that a driver can only drive 10 hours and then take an 8 hour break. Which means that if you started diving at 4 am. to miss the rush hour traffic you would have to stop at 2p.m. and go to sleep till 10 p.m. then at 10p.m. you woke up and ate breakfast and showered and left the truck stop at 11:30 or midnight you would have stop and take a an 8 hour break at 9:30 or 10 am. depending on when you left. Now your body has a "built in clock" that will tell you when you are tired and need to sleep. Now I'm not saying to get ride of the 10 hour rule what I am saying is modify it to meet todays drivers not the drivers from the 1940's.

The other problem with the hours of service is the 15 hour rule. What it says is a driver is allowed to work 15 hours in a 24 hour period. Their are some trucking companies that will tell you what that means is you unload or load for 15 hours then you can drive for 10 hours right?? WRONG. But just like all the other regulations we have to follow they are open to interpretation it isn't spelled out they wait it should be. But the 15 hour rule doesn't say that we can drive over that either but if you refer to the above the 10 rule say's you can . Now from personal experience I can tell you that if a state inspector is in a bad mood and you logged 16 hours of driving you just bought yourself a ticket (and its expensive too) .Now let me say that I'm not fully versed in all the laws for truckers BUT I AM A TRUCKER AND THE REASON I SAY THAT IS THEIR ARE TO MANY LAWS SURROUNDING THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE A LAWYER TO FIGURE IT ALL OUT. Now let me explain myself we are tested on general knowledge of the rules. Each state has its own rules and regulations to follow that 48 different laws to know not to mention if you go to Canada where every thing changes
