THE MORRIS FAMILY OF PHILADELPHIA
The following pages represent a work in progress, with its beginnings rooted in the
distant past. For over three hundred years, The Morris Family has thrived and grown in the
Philadelphia region.
What follows is a listing based upon the basic five-volume work, The Morris Family of
Philadelphia, by Dr. Robert C. Moon - and also the supplementary book, Descendants
of Samuel Morris - 1734-1812. For the information of those who may not be familiar
with the Moon history it may be stated that the volumes were brought out between 1898 and
1908. The supplement was published in 1959 as a direct outgrowth of the suggestion, in
1954, of J. Morris Wistar (4087), who noticed that December 11, 1955, would be the 200th
anniversary of the marriage of Samuel Morris (48) and Rebecca Wistar. That anniversary was
celebrated by a large reunion.
Dr. Moon's system of numbering was carried over into the supplement, extended to
subsequent generations by the use of decimals. I have continued the supplement here,
updating births, marriages and deaths as they have occured since the publication of the
book in 1959. The original five-volume set included photographs and reproductions of
people, homes and many legal documents, as well as stories of the family. For the sake of
space, I will follow the format of the supplement, which will only serve as a family tree
of sorts. I have taken the liberty, however, of including any e-mail addresses and/or web
pages as I have come across in my search to know my family.
While browsing through these pages you will see this diamond. Simply click the diamond to
expand this list and view the children and spouses of that individual. Click on the
identification number of a person to move forward or backward through the tree.
Looking forward to the generations of the future, I herewith submit this record for their
inspiration. Let it serve them as it has served me. To provide a proud past, and hope for
the future. I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to those who have
particularly aided in these efforts.
