POSTCARDS: PICTURES INTO THE PAST

Just as we use photographs to enhance our genealogy, postcards can be used to chronicle our family history. We may find postcards of cemeteries, towns, streets, houses, workplaces, and schools that were associated with our ancestors. And those wonderful old postcards that had actual photos of people could be the only picture we have of an early relative.
So if you haven't already done it, look through those boxes stored in the attic or basement. Visit the second-hand stores and antique shops in the area of your ancestors. And try to find a postcard show in your area.

Here is one of my favorite cards. It was mailed in 1910 and shows a group of workers. The tall one standing on the right is my Grandfather. He mailed this card to his future wife - my Grandmother.

There are many good postcard sites on the web - including on-line auctions of cards.
