The McMillan Family


Angus McMillan born 1830 in Paisley, Ayrshire, Scotland. He applied for citizenship on Oct. 30, 1858 in Waukesha County. They resided in the Town of Vernon, Waukesha County until about 1878, when they moved to Town of Lucas/Knapp, Dunn County, WI (quite a few of the Scotch settlement moved to that area at the same time). He lived on a farm in the Town of Lucas for nearly 25 years. He died January 5, 1903 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn County, Wisconsin.

He married first Susan Millar born November 1, 1826, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (Parker) Millar from Stewarton, Ayrshire, Scotland. She died aft. 1880 in the Town of Lucas, Dunn County, Wisconsin.

He married second Mary Millar, the niece of his late wife, the daughter of Susan's brother, William Millar. They had an adopted daughter Josephine.

The children of Angus and Susan:

1. Elizabeth (Lizzie) McMillan born July 29, 1858 in Vernon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Lizzie married Eugene Sprague in 1880. Lizzie died September 18, 1892 in Vernon, and was buried in the Town of Vernon Cemetery. She belonged to the Vernon United Presbyterian Church.

2. Mary Ann McMillan born December 29, 1859 in Vernon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. She married Franklin (Jim) H. Guthrie on September 29, 1877 in Vernon. Jim Guthrie was the son of Wililam Guthrie and Sarah Neil Guthrie. They were married over 50 years. Mary Ann died on February 27, 1951 in Vernon. They are buried in the Vernon United Presbyterian Cemetery.

The children of Jim and Mary Ann Guthrie:

i.Floyd Franklin Guthrie, born January 14, 1880 in Vernon; died May 29, 1966 in Vernon. Married Myra Elizabeth Foster on May 12, 1917. He is buried in the Vernon U.P. Cemetery.

ii. Clayton William Guthrie, born August 14, 1881; died January 15, 1926 and buried in the Vernon U.P. Cemetery.

iii. John Tillier Guthrie, born June 5, 1884; died March 11, 1971 and is buried in the Vernon U.P. Cemetery .He married Katherine Fisch. They had the following children: George Sylverius Guthrie, Owen Michael Guthrie, James Martin Guthrie, Margaret Vilas Guthrie, May Madeline Guthrie, Harold John Guthrie, Evelyn Violet Guthrie, Clayton Earl Guthrie, and Betty Jane Guthrie.

iv. May Lura Guthrie, born May 24, 1886; died November 24, 1954. She married Albert Bauer and had Jean Guthrie Bauer.

v. Edna Olean Guthrie, born April 20, 1888; died September 5, 1939. She married William Ewart Drumn and had William James and Margaret Mary Drumn.

vi. Alta Evelyn Guthrie, born February 10, 1897; died March 21, 1979. She married Henry Carew Wylie and had the following children: Mary Evelyn Wylie, Charles Carew Wylie, Margie Mae Wylie, and Cynthia Dell Wylie.

vii. Margaret Millar Guthrie, (twin) born July 18, 1900; died October 17, 1970. She married Thomas Morton Howie and had the following children: Clayton Howie, Thomas Clayton Howie, Margaret Louise Howie and Ann Guthrie Howie.

viii. Marjorie Evangeline Guthrie, (twin) born July 18, 1900; died December 26, 1963. She married Thomas Morgan Sinclair and had the following children: Lorna Joanne Sinclair, Floyd Thomas Sinclair, and Harlow Gordon Sinclair.

3. Marion McMillan born April 7, 1862 in Vernon. Died April 11, 1863 and is buried in the Vernon United Presbyterian Cemetery with a small tombstone, barely readable, with a tree growing out of it.

4. Angus McMillan, Jr. was born in 1865 in Vernon. In 1872, he removed with his father Angus, to Knapp, Town of Lucas, Dunn County, Wisconsin. In November 1894 he was married, according to an article in the Mukwonago Chief. His sister, Mary Ann Guthrie journeyed to Knapp for the wedding. He married Johanna Graeser on November 7, 1894 and they had 2 children, Ada and Susan. Angus, Jr. died in Lucas on April 10, 1902.
