The Jacob Wallrabenstein Family

Child of Gotlieb and Magdalena Wallrabenstein

Jacob C. Wallrabenstein, was born June 22, 1836 in Laufenselden, Hesse-Nassau, Germany. He came to America with his father and stepmother on July 1849, at the age of 13 years. He lived in Ackerville, Town of Polk, until he enlisted in the Wisconsin Vounteers. A Civil War Veteran, he served 3 years and 10 months with the Wisconsin Union forces, the 9th battery, light artillery, stationed mostly in the Colorado Territory (and western Kansas) protecting settlers from Indian attacks. Sections of the battery saw action in the battle of Little Blue, MO on October 21, 1864 and joined General Blunt's Army of the Border in eastern Kansas. He was mustered out on September 30, 1865 and disbanded in Madison, WI on October 4, 1865.

Jacob returned to Washington County and six months later, on April 15, 1866, he married Christina SCHULTEIS at the home of his father, Gotlieb, in Ackerville. The marriage was performed by Wilhelm Biesemeier, Minister of the Gospel (Marriage Record #1118).

Shortly after the marriage, they moved to a homestead in the Town of Erin, later known as Orchard Hill, near St. Augustine. The house and barns are still standing at 2265 Powder Hill Road. Their first child was born stillborn in 1867. However they were blessed with 13 children during the marriage. In October 1891, they moved to a house in the 2nd ward of Hartford (south Main Street). Christina passed away shortly after the birth of their last child, Fredrick, on March 3, 1893. Both Christina and Jacob are buried in Union Cemetery in Hartford.

The parents of Christina SCHULTEIS are:
Nicholas SCHULTEIS and Elizabeth PFEIL SCHULTEIS
