1.Two representatives from Idaho Timber met with us at Home Depot store #225        (WPB) to discuss a moisture content problem with a shipment of lumber.  When I asked Mike Johnson, V.P., Idaho Timber why was Florida Home Depot's dumping grounds for bad lumber, he and his associate laughed and said they usually assign that title to Texas and New Mexico, but had to agree that Florida got a lot of undesirable lumber.

2.When questioning Home Depot personnel, particularly lumber buyer, Steve Conwell, as to why there are different quality standards for different Home Depot stores, he stated that, "You only have to be as good as your competition."  In other words, Home Depot had to provide quality lumber as long as local lumberyards were competing with Home Depot.  Home Depot would sell a comparable quality product but at a much lower price until the competition was out of business.  Once that happened Home Depot could then lower the quality of lumber because the "competition" was no longer a specialty lumberyard, but now only places like Lowe's and Builder's Square, which as everyone knows cannot provide the same product and service that a lumberyard can.  Therefore resulting in, the decline of quality lumber and service in an entire community.
