Central Newfoundland is a land of trees and streams bounded by coasts on the north and south. Logging and mining have long been the mainstays of the interior, while fishing dominates life on the coasts. In Notre Dame Bay visitors can see huge icebergs in late spring and early summer and explore the many nooks and crannies among the islands and coves. Salmon fishing is great here in sparkling rivers dusted by morning mists. Hunters will find moose, caribou and black bear. Here the land was once dominated by the Beothuck. These people are no more, but their spirit remains.
