The Northern Peninsula begins where the Viking Trail turns off at Deer Lake. The trail takes you first through the rugged beauty of the Long Range Mountains to the spectacular beauty of Bonne Bay. This area has been selected as the location of the second of Newfoundland's National Parks ---Gros Morne. The park offers magnificent scenery, an excellent interpretation center, picnic and camp sites, trails and rides. Further north the road is surrounded and sometimes covered with drifting white sand. The Tuckmore trees are almost flattened by the wind--- as the ocean rolls into windswept beaches. On the right the Long Range Mountains offer a continually changing vista of valleys, fiords and cloud shrouded peaks
