For those of you who love baking, here are some holiday favorites.

CHOCOLATE PECAN PIE

Pastry for 9-inch one crust pie 2/3 c sugar
1/3 c butter 1/2 tsp salt
2 squares(1 oz. each)unsweetened chocolate 1 cup corn syrup
3 eggs 1 cup pecan halves or broken pecans

 

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Prepare pastry. Heat margarine and chocolate in small saucepan over low heat until melted. Beat eggs, sugar, salt and syrup with hand beater. Stir in chocolate mixture and pecans. Pour into pastry-lined pie plate.

Bake until set, 40 to 50 minutes. Cool slightly. Serve warm or refrigerate any remaining pie immediately.




FRENCH APPLE PIE

 

Pastry for 9-inch one crust pie 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 c sugar Dash of salt
1/4 c all-purpose flour* 6 c thinly sliced pared tart apples
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg Crumb Topping(below)

 

Heat oven to 425 degrees. Prepare pastry. Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Stir in apples. Turn into pastry-lined pie plate. Sprinkle apple filling with Crumb Topping. Bake until crust is brown and juices begin to bubble, 50 minutes. Cover topping with aluminum foil during last 10 minutes of baking. Serve pie warm.

*If using self-rising flour, omit salt

CRUMB TOPPING

1 c all-purpose flour 1/2c packed brown sugar
1/2 c firm butter

Mix all ingerdients until crumbly.
