Captain William Rowan Chapter

DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

4-018-KY
McLean County, Kentucky

The DAR was founded in October, 1890, one hundred years after the war for our independence.Four ladies wished to form a group whose goals were to be historic, educational, and patriotic. One of these ladies, Mary Desha was from Kentucky.

The Captain William Rowan Chapter was organized in April, 1949. The Chapter was named for Captain William Rowan, father of Judge John Rowan of "My Old Kentucky Home", from Bardstown, Kentucky. The Rowan family first settled near Calhoun (Fort Vienna), Kentucky then moved to Bardstown where their son John would receive a better education.
