BE NICE TO ME !

I'm a very old Dog !

Old Dog---No Tricks

Being an old dog isn't such a bad thing. I demand and I get special treatment. There is always a question as to what is "old" in dog years. Well, I can tell you that 12 is pretty old. And 13 and 14 is really pushing it up there. But 15 is the ultimate in oldness. Any older than that and you are dead!

These last 3 years have been a real downhill slide for me. I can't seem to loose the weight like I used to. My legs have lost their youthful spring. My eyes---well, they're rather clouded but I can see when I want to. My ears work intermittently (don't understand that one). I walk into a room and then I forget what I am there for! It can be confusing to say the least.

I've been noticing lately that my Mom disappears. I need her to tell me if I'm still breathing. So I go looking for her only to find that she is right where I left her (I think!?!). (Scratch - scratch)

I'm getting very picky about my food. I would rather have hamburgers! All I've been getting is Dog Chow or Pedigree -- stuff like that. Mom says I'm too fat! Well, being fat isn't the worst thing there is.

My teeth have been falling out!! Mom found a tooth on the floor last week. She thought it was Dad's. Ha-ha. It was mine! It was a nasty thing--I didn't want it anymore. And, quess what! I've got a lot more of 'em that I don't want anymore!

But, I digress--Back to the food (My favorite subject). I've been getting picky about my food. My food is called "little bites" or something like that. It has little nuggets and little bones in it. I don't like the nuggets. I only like the bones. So I root around in the bowl and toss out the nuggets and I only eat the bones. This has made Mom worried that I don't get enough to eat. So she puts a spoonful of cottage cheese on top. Say---I like that! I get something good and I don't even have to do tricks. Now Mom doesn't worry and I get something to look forward to. And---I'm still fat!

I get to go for rides in the car on occasion. Mom LIFTS me up and onto the seat. Not a bad deal, huh? My Mom is always worried about my comfort. She covers me if it's cold. She shades me from the sun. And she even carries me when I'm tired!
