You may be wondering where exactly is the Heart of Texas?  Well that would be the Rio Grande Valley where my family is from, of course!

Who exactly is my family?  Well you would have to go into my "Relatively Speaking" pages to find out.  This page is dedicated to my home area of the Rio Grande Valley.  To be more specific would be the tiny town of Elsa in Hidalgo County.  Population of about 5500 people.  Home of the FIGHTING YELLOWJACKETS!

High school sports is really popular in Texas.  I am not sure why but people just seem to be so proud of their teams competing with eachother.

We are located in between Harlingen and Edinburg to be exact.  Our high school is made up of 2 combined towns of Elsa and Edcouch.   We are really proud of our high school teams and our band.  The band has been rated #1 at state competitions, not bad for a tiny town, huh?

The Rio Grande Valley has such beautiful weather and palm trees.  The Tex-Mex music and food is awesome.  Sometimes it is hard to explain to people but there is just something unique about the valley that you just can't feel anywhere else.  Maybe the high amount of Mexican population has something to do with it, but it makes it what it is.  A wonderful place to eat, party, catch on the family, fish and catch the sun!

Our family normally gets together about once every two years for get togethers.  It's a time to hit the "Panaderia" meaning "Bakery" for you non-spangling speaking people.  Anyway we usually are anxious to have the San Manuel chorizo, moms homemade tortilla's and any dish she is willing to cook.  My brothers loco are crazy about fishing and normally head to Port Isabel for a midnight fish run.  Of course it is cooler then so you can hardly blame them.  The only problem is the fish are not always willing to cooperate, but heck thats what fish stories are for.

Well here are some great valley links if your a little homesick or just curious.  Give them a try!
