Family Lines

Rev. Lars Hansen (1844-1937) born in Denmark-Married Caroline? He came to the united states in the 1870's. He worked first as a lumberjack in New York. He then moved to Sleepy Eye Minnesota. At one point he lived in Des Moines Iowa. He may have possibly been in seminar to become a minister at that time. He had a church near Chicago for a while, founded a chuch in Nebraska. He was Danish Lutheran. His wife Caroline or Carolynn was the music director in his churches. Caroline passed away in 1933 and Lars moved to a Lutheran retirement home in Des Moines. He met and married Patria ? there.



Children


Thyra (1884-1965) married Dr. O.C (Dard) Haldeman (March19 1870-March 21 1937). He was a dentist. He had gone to the same Dental School in Kansas City as Thyra's brothers Elmer and Svend. Thyra had attended Grand View College in Des Moines Iowa, a Danish school. They resided in Kansas City, Missouri They had no children. They had gone on a round the world cruise in 1929 and returned in October. They got home the day of the stock market crash. Thyra came through the depression coming out of it owning a lot of real estate in the Kansas City area including a post office building, grocery store and apartments. She was supposedly good friends with the Pendergasts. She never remarried and lived on the Plaza until her death. She traveled frequently to Europe even into her 80's.

Svend-married Elsie ?-. He was a Dr. of Dentistry in Aurora Nebraska. I do not know if they had children


Frita-married P. J. Refshauge (1886-1969). They had children but at this point I do not know they're names.


Theodora (Feb. 14 1884-Oct 13 1973) attended Grand View College in Des Moines Iowa. She married Carl Christensen (Aug. 4 1881-April 1963). They had a store in Davey Nebraska and farmed in that area. Their oldest child Mildred (March 17 1911) died of the fever when she was four (April 22 1915). They had two boys, Willard and Theodore.


Elmer (8/15/1888-1969)born in Troy NY-married Maria Kronas,(9/25/1910-June 1989) from Czechslovakia . He was also a dentist in his later years. He fought in WWI but we do not know in what capacity or even for sure what side. He resided in India during the 40's and 50's. He traveled extensively and did not marry until he was in his 60's. He had no known children. He resided in Long Beach California from the 1950's until his death. Maria continued to live in the same apartment until her death. The neighborhood had gone from a very chic area to a slum, overridden with gangs, crackhouses and violence. No one would have suspected her of being wealthy. Elmer brought a large sum of money back with him from India and invested wisely as well as being the sole heir to his sister Thyra's estate.
