Daniel's Corner

Tulip Festival in LaConner, Washington (April 2002)

Hi!! My friends also call me "Dan". Please don't call me Danny...yucch...My full name is Daniel Aik-Jin Wee. Aik-Jin is my Chinese name and I think it means "...mercy and tenderness..."or something like that. The strange thing is that in Mandarin it is pronounced "Eat Ren" which doesn't sound like its Hokkien counterpart. Yes, I am true blue Hokkien because my Mum and Dad are both Hokkien. My Dad says our family is from a place called "Kim Mond" meaning "Golden Gate".

I came into this world on August 15,1959. My country of birth is the tiny island nation of Singapore located just south of Malaysia. And I have our family trademark, "chubby cheeks"!

A "wee" bit about my family...My Dad's name is Swee-Hock Wee. My Mum's name is Mary Bur-Kim Wee (nee Soon). She went to be with the Lord when she was 59 on March 1991. We miss her but we know she is in heaven with the Lord and this always cheers us up. I have one sister and one brother.

I am the eldest in the family. My sister, who is 2 years younger than I am, is Joycelyn Chiew-Lin Rolston. We call her "Ah Bee" as a nickname because when she was a baby, we called her "baby" and it got shortened to "Bee". She is married to Terence John Rolston. They have 3 kids: Melissa Lyn (1991), Cherylyn Page (1992) and Joshua William TJ (1997). I have a younger brother who is 12 years younger than I am. His name is Justin Aik-Ghee Wee but we call him Jus.

a welcome addition to the Wee Clan!

Our family immigrated to Vancouver, BC, Canada in 1977 when I was 18. My family came in March and I came later in December. I flew all the way from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Vancouver on JAL all by myself and other than a short trip with my dad to HK, I've never flown before. When I looked out the window after crossing the Pacific, my first thought was "Wow...so many snow-capped mountains...". I was really impressed because I've never seen mountains and snow before. I thought they looked so picturesque and wonderful...just like the calenders...The plane landed on a wet day in Vancouver. As I drove with my family to the place we were staying, I recall Granville Street which my sis says was the main road in Vancouver.

I enrolled in Vancouver Community College Langara where I took science transfer courses to the University of British Columbia (UBC). In 1979, I was admitted into the UBC Faculty of Applied Science where I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1984. I work in forestry industry from pulp and paper to wood panels. I currently work for CPM Consultants Inc., an engineering firm. Prior to CPM, I worked for Raute Wood which is a Finnish company that manufactures equipment for the production of wood panels.

I became a Christian at a very young age and committed my life to the Lord as a serious Christian when I was 16. I attended Evangelical Chinese Fellowship and Geylang Gospel Hall in Singapore. When we moved to Canada, we attended Bakerview Gospel Chapel. I recently left Bakerview to join ECBC (Evangelical Chinese Bible Church) in January 1998. At first I didn't know why I was"led" to leave my old church of nearly 20 years but on March 6, 1998, it became clear...

Daniel teaching Baptismal Class at ECBC (1998)
On March 6, 1998 I attended Joshua Fellowship potluck dinner at Calvin's & Miriam's home. It was there that I met my sweetheart, Ms Anabelle Lieuson. She's a nurse. I thought she was very nice and very pretty too. For 2 weeks straight, we e-mailed each other. Then I asked her out on our first date to "Cheesecake Etc"...I soon fell in love with this wonderful gal. Now, I want to marry her...

....my beats for her!!!

ODE TO DANIEL

Had you ever a workmate who laboured so hard,
For his health and well-being he had low regard,
Well, that was the Daniel we all knew so well,
In the years before he met Anabelle.

Beemers and ragtops were his only vice,
With a piece of machinery he'd try to entice
Some beautiful woman, with the standard soft sell,
But that was before he met Anabelle.

But then it happened, in a house of prayer,
He just looked up, and she was there,
Time stood still, his heart as well,
The day that Daniel met Anabelle.

The nights that he dreamt of a woman so fine,
He just needed someone to keep him in line,
It was clear to us he was under her spell,
Soon after Daniel met Anabelle.

We're used to him talking and listening as well,
But by the distant look we can easily tell
The exact, precise moment a good man fell,
The moment that Daniel met Anabelle.

The marriage was planned and the web page too,
On the road to forever you have to go through
This day, but like a boxer, he answered the bell,
And start the first round with his wife Anabelle.

So now we see Daniel to the lions' den go,
He hasn't been harmed, he's got quite a glow,
On the sea of life she can calm the swell,
Living is easy with his wife Anabelle.

Now those pesky sales trips are no longer much fun,
He can't wait to get home, there's so much to be done,
But his thirst has been quenched from the true love well,
Since the day that Daniel met Anabelle.

So the future is bright for our loyal friend,
And who knows our course til life's final end,
But to all who will listen I'm sure he will tell,
The best day was the one when he met Anabelle.
