It has happened to each and every one of us: you install that new and wonderful graphics (or whatever) program, and the next time you want to see, say, a .JPG picture it suddenly starts that "wonderful' new program instead of the old viewer you want to admire that picture with.
Your file associations have been hijacked!
Since I've often read about this problem in the Newsgroups, after some poor soul installed PSP6, the solution belongs on a typical PSP site like mine!
Open Explorer, find a file with the .JPG extension, highlight it and right-click (on some systems shift-right-click).
In the menu that opens now, choose 'open with'.
A new window opens with a text like 'click the program you want to use to...etc.', and with a list of programs on your system.
First see to it, that the button 'Always use this program to open...' is checked, or you will have to repeat this operation again next time you want to see this file-type!
Now in the list of programs select the one you want to use to open this file-type.
Again: 'always use this program to... etc.' should be checked before you click OK!!
If the program you'd like to use for this file type is not in the list, click the button at the bottom-right that says something like 'browse' or 'search'.

A new window will open, in which you can browse all the other programs till you find the right one. Select that, and click OK.

Now you have repaired the file association for the file-type 'JPG'. I'm sorry to say, you'll have to repeat this sequence again for each and every one of the file extensions that were 'taken over'!

I know the images in this tutorial show text in the Dutch language. I'm sorry for that: my Windows Explorer is a Dutch version. But I think the intention should be clear to every one of you!

Happy viewing
