Velcro Covers

Top Left - Bummi Industrial Wrap, Size M; Top Right - Mother Ease Rikki Wrap, Size M

Bottom - Diaperap, Size M

Bummi Industrial or Super Whisper Wrap -  This is our default cover. It's polyester and the gussets are built-in. We have had no problems with leaks or wicking through the velcro. The velcro has little tabs to fold it back so it doesn't get stuck on anything in the wash, and is very durable. We have found it to fit well over prefolds or fitted diapers. The Medium Size fits 15-30 lbs, and seems very accurate so far (we're on a very tight setting at 20.5 lbs

Mother Ease Rikki Wrap - We tend to use this cover most over fitted diapers. It has Aplix(tm) Velcro closures, and an interesting material that is soft on the outside (and collects lint/dog hair), but wipes clean on the inside - a polyester and polyurethane laminate. It has leg gussets. The velcro must be closed to wash - there are no fold-backs. The Medium size says 15-20 lbs, but we have some grow room left.

Diaperap - We got this wrap (and a few other Diaperaps) at a resale shop, used. The Velcro is very strong, and holds up to washings well. It is also a poly cover, and has leg gussets. The size Medium says 15-21 lbs, but we don't have much grow room left, if any. it does *not* fit over fitted diapers, but works ok for prefolds. This is our emergency cover when the others are in the wash.

Snap Covers

Top Left - JennyOh Fleece Air-Flow Style; Top Right - Mother Ease Air-Flow, Size M

Bottom Left - Alexis Snap Pant, Size M; Bottom Right - ABC Stiches Fleece Cover

JennyOh Fleece - This is currently our favorite cover - it washes well (it gets linty sometimes, though!), it snaps well, the elastic is strong, and although it looks small in the picture, it fits with room to grow, even over a double diaper at night. This cover is 1-layer of fleece, and has plastic snaps at the top and bottom of the leg openings.

Mother Ease Air-Flow - This is the same fabric as the Rikki Wrap, but instead of velcro, it has snaps at the top and bottom of the leg openings. This is very handy for children with chubbier legs than tummies (or vice versa). We have no gaping or leak problems, and it is easy to put on while the child is standing up. The Medium should fit 15-20 lbs, but we have a lot of grow room left (especially at the tummy!) at 20.5 lbs.

Alexis Snap Pant - This is a Nylon, not rubber pant, with 3 metal snaps on the sides. The elastic is pretty stretchy, and we can still use it at 20.5 lbs - however, a lot of moms say that their babies outgrow the Alexis before the weight is reached. The fit is good - we've never had a leak. They are a very inexpensive cover - usually a 2-pack for $7.

ABC Stitches Fleece - This is the toddler-size, which is a bit big on Mackenzie, and the legs gape a bit. But, once she is supposed to fit in it, it should be fine. Karen uses Snap Tape, which wears well thorugh washing. This fleece cover has 2 layers, so it is bulky under clothes, but fits great under dresses or with a t-shirt. This cover also has gussets.

We like snaps once the baby is old enough to pull off the velcro! Also, snaps can't get stuck on things in the wash. However, snaps can be irritating with the constant changes of a newborn. We also like fleece because it is so easy to care for, unlike the fussiness of wool - it just washes with soap (not detergent) at any temperature and with whateer is being washed.

Wool "Soakers"

Wool Soakers are hand-knit from 100% wool. They are used in place of diaper covers, so they don't actually get "soaked" - actually the waterproofness of wool keeps the wet in, but allows the air to circulate - they are not hot, even in a Texas summer! They need to be washed infrequently (usually once every month or two), and lanolized to retain their waterproofing

My Nana made these for Mackenzie, her great-grandaughter. You can buy your own wool soakers from a diaper reseller (Aristocrats are a popular brand), buy a WAHM Soaker (like Bloomin!), or knit your own.

Other Covers

Prowrap Snap - (cover courtesy of Jill) A snap cover with gussets, and snaps all the way across the waist. This cover is much larger than sizing would indicate. It would be best to order a size smaller than you would expect based on weight. It would also be best to make sure that the company has a good return policy before ordering. A good, sturdy cover, just difficult to fit based on weights listed by the manufacturer.
