Skim through card card catalogs for family names and locals or military history books. Get names and addresses of out-of-print books. Make a visit to the library and if you have no idea where to start, ask the librarian there for assistance. Most will be happy to assist you in your research.
  • Contact other genealogists. Perhaps the best assistance come from other genealogists. They will be familiar with your area of research and know what kind of materials you need to assist you in doing the research. Whether they can or not-- respond positively to their letters, or messages. Always try to reply with a quick message or thank you to acknowledge receipt.
  • Visit local genealogy societies or clubs. These societies support research on family history. They also encourage awareness of traditions and history..
  • Visit Family History Centers. These centers are often located in meeting-houses of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many of these are privtely owned, but the public is welcome.
