"When Jesus Is In The House" Once there was this very wealthy young man.He lived in a great, elaborate house with dozens of rooms, each room was more comfortable and more beautiful than the one before it,there were paintings, sculptures,Crystal chandeliers and golden ornate railings on the stairs.More beauty than most have ever seen. One day he decided to invite the Lord to come home and stay with him. When the Lord arrived, this young man offered him the very best room in the house. The room was upstairs and at the end of the hall."This room is yours,Jesus!Stay as long as you like and you can do whatever you want to in this room, remember Jesus, its all yours." That evening after he had retired for the night there came a loud knocking at the front door. The young man pulled on his robe and made his way downstairs. When he opened the door he found that the devil had sent three of his demons to attack the man.He quickly tried to close the door but one of the demons kept sticking his, foot in.Sometime later, after a great struggle,he managed to slam the door shut and returned to his room totally exhausted. "Can you believe that",the man thought,"Jesus is upstairs in my very best room sleeping while I am down here battling demons.Oh, well, maybe he just didn't hear. The next day thing went along as normal and, being tired as he was, the young man retired early that evening.Along about midnight, there came such a terrible ruckus at the front door that the young man was sure that whatever it was would tear the door down.He stumbled down the stairs once again and opened the door to find that were dozens of demons now trying to get into his beautiful home. For more than three hours he fought and struggled against the demons from hell and finally overtook them enough to shut the door against their attack. All energy seemed to fail him.He really didn't understand this at all. "Why won't the Lord come to my rescue? Why does he allow me to fight all by myself? I feel so alone". Troubled,he found his way to the sofa and fell into a restless sleep. The next morning he decided to inquire of the Lord about the happenings of the last two evenings.Quietly he made his way to the elegant bedroom where he had left Jesus. "Jesus," he called as he tapped at the door. Lord,I don't understand what is happening. For the last two nights I have had to fight the demons away from my door while you laid up here sleeping.Don't you care about me?Did I not give you the very best room in the house? He could see the tears building in Jesus eyes but he continued on,I just don't understand, I really thought that once I invited you in to live with me that you would take care of me and I gave you the best room in my house and everything. What more can I do? "My precious child,"Jesus spoke so softly. "I do love and care for you. I protect all that you have released into my care. But when you invited me to come here and stay, you brought me to this lovely room and you shut the door to the rest of your house.I am Lord of this room but I am not Master of this house.I have protected this room and no demon may enter here." Oh,Lord, please forgive me.Take all of my house-it is yours.I am so sorry that I never offered you all to begin with.I want you to have control of everything. With this he flung open the bedroom door and knelt at,Jesus' feet."Please forgive me Lord for being so selfish." Jesus smiled and told him that He had already forgiven him and that He would take care of things from now on. That night as the young man prepared for bed he thought,"I wonder if those demons will return,I am so tired of fighting them each and every night." But he knew that Jesus said that he would take care of things from now on.At about midnight the banging on the door was frightening, The young man slipped out of his room in time to see Jesus going down the stairs. He watched in awe as Jesus swung open the door, no need to be afraid. Satan stood at the door this time demanding to be let in. "What do you want, satan?" the Lord asked. The devil bowed low in the presence of the Lord, "So sorry, I seem to have gotten the wrong address." And with that, he and the demons all ran away. There is a moral to this tale. Jesus wants all of you, not just a part. He will take all that you give Him but nothing more. How much of your heart have you given to the Lord? Are you keeping a portion of it away from Him? Perhaps the attacks are coming more and more each day.Why not let the Lord fight the battles for you? He is always victorious. I have found that God made man simple, all of man's complexities are of his own devising. Submitted By: Martha Burrough
"CHECKING IN" A minister passing through his church in the middle of the day, Decided to pause by the altar and see who had come to pray.Just then the back door opened, a man came down the aisle, The minister frowned as he saw the man hadn't shaved in a while. His shirt was kinda shabby and his coat was worn and frayed. The man knelt, bowed his head, then rose and walked away. In the days that followed, each noon time came this chap, Each time he knelt just for a moment, a lunch pail in his lap. Well, the minister's suspicions grew, with robbery a main fear, He decided to stop the man and ask him, "What are you doing here?" The old man said, he worked down the road. Lunch was half an hour. Lunchtime was his prayer time, for finding strength and power. "I stay only moments, see because the factory is so far away; As I kneel here talking to the Lord, this is kinda what I say: I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN. DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS JIM CHECKING IN. The minister, feeling foolish told Jim, that was fine. He told the man he was welcome to come and pray just anytime. Time to go, Jim smiled, said Thanks. He hurried to the door. The minister knelt at the alter, he'd never done it before. His cold heart melted, warmed with love, and met with Jesus there. As the tears flowed, in his heart, he repeated old Jim's prayer: "I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, LORD, HOW HAPPY I'VE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND EACH OTHER'S FRIENDSHIP AND YOU TOOK AWAY MY SIN. I DON'T KNOW MUCH OF HOW TO PRAY, BUT I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY. SO, JESUS, THIS IS ME CHECKING IN." Past noon one day, the minister noticed that old Jim hadn't come. As more days passed without Jim, he began to worry some. At the factory, he asked about him, learning he was ill. The hospital staff was worried, but he'd given them a thrill. The week that Jim was with them, brought changes in the ward. His smiles, a joy contagious. Changed people, were his reward. The head nurse couldn't understand why Jim was so glad, When no flowers, calls or cards came, not a visitor he had. The minister stayed by his bed, he voiced the nurse's concern: No friends came to show they cared. He had nowhere to turn. Looking surprised, old Jim spoke up and with a winsome smile; The nurse is wrong, she couldn't know, that in here all the while, Everyday at noon He's here, a dear friend of mine, you see, He sits right down takes my hand, leans over and says to me: "I JUST CAME AGAIN TO TELL YOU, JIM, HOW HAPPY I HAVE BEEN, SINCE WE FOUND THIS FRIENDSHIP, AND I TOOK AWAY YOUR SIN. ALWAYS LOVE TO HEAR YOU PRAY, I THINK ABOUT YOU EACH DAY AND SO JIM, THIS IS JESUS CHECKING IN."- Submitted By: Mardene McCarrey
"MISS ME BUT LET ME GO" When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rites in a gloom filled room Miss me, but let me go Why cry for a soul set free! Miss me a little, but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love that we once shared Miss me, but let me go For this is a journey we all must take And each must go alone It's all part of the Masters' Plan A step on the way to home Miss me, but let me go When you are lonely and sick of heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds Miss me but let me go. { " PAUL " } I've never seen God Paul, but I know how I feel. It's people like you who makes Him so real. I really believe that I past Him so often each day in the faces of people that I meet on my way. He's the Stars in the Heaven,a Smile on some Face, a Leaf on a Tree ,or a Rose in a Vase. He's Winter and Autumn and Summer and Spring. In short, God is every Real and Wonderful thing. I wish I might meet Him much more than I do and I know I would Paul, if there were more people like you! "BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER" It was a regular Sunday morning, I'd hurried to church after the regular routines of the morning. It was almost time for church to start when I got out of my car and headed in. I noticed most of the people looking at a corner of the church and whispering. I wondered what they could be talking about. Then I saw, a crumpled up looking haggared man who looked as though he was resting outside the church. He was dirty as though he had had no bath. And like everyone else my nose kinda crumpled and I kept walking into the church. I sat down, and everything grew seemingly quiet waiting on the preacher to arrive. All of a sudden, gasps and whispers among the congregation. For the crumpled up old man was walking down to the alter. He had old dirty clothes on. As he kept walking up to the alter, the man then took off his hat and to everyone's amazement, it was the preacher. He spoke, "good morning, this morning we will be studying be kind to one another." For not one member of this church had offered this man a hand. Know matter who we are or what we look like we are all one in God's eyes. We should not look down on anyone. " ANGEL STORY " Two traveling Angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family, the family was rude and refused to let the Angles stay in the mansion's guest room. Instead the Angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older Angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger Angel asked why, the older Angel replied... Things aren't always what they seem. The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife. After sharing what litte food they had the couple let the Angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest, When the sun came up the next morning the Angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk has been their sole income, lay dead in the field, The younger Angel was infuriated and asked the older Angel how could you have let this happen! The first man had everything, yet you helped him. The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let their cow die. Things aren't always what they seem," the older Angel replied, When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I notice there was gold stored in that hole in the wall. Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it. Then last night as we slept in the farmer's bed, the Angel of Death came for his wife. I told him to take the cow instead. Things arent't always what they seem. Sometimes this is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way we think they should. If you have Faith in God, just trust that every outcome is always to your advantage. You might not realized it until much later. Submitted by: Linda Wideman
" I Met The Master Face To Face " I had walked life's way with an easy tread, Had followed where comforts and pleasures led, Until one day in a quiet place I met the Master face to face. I met him and knew him and blushed to see That his eyes full of sorrow were fixed on me, And I faltered and fell at his feet that day, While my castles melted and vanished away. Melted and vanished, and in their place Nothing else did I see but the Master's face; And I cried aloud, "Oh, make me meek To follow the steps of thy wounded feet!" My thought is now for the souls of men; I have lost my life to find it again, For I know one day in a quiet place, I met the Master face to face. Submitted By: Maggie Zimmer

" THE ARTIST " Years ago, there was a very wealthy man who, with his devoted young son, shared a passion for art collecting. Together, they traveled around the world, adding only the finest art treasures to their collection. Priceless works by Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet and many, others adorned the walls of the family estate. The widowed elder man looked on with satisfaction as his only child became an experienced art collector. The son's trained eye and sharp business mind caused his father to beam with pride as they dealt with art collectors around the world. As winter approached, war engulfed the nation, and the young man left to serve his country. After only a few short weeks, his father received a telegram. His beloved son was missing in action. The art collector anxiously awaited more news, fearing he would never see his son again. Within days, his fears were confirmed, the young man had died while rushing a fellow soldier to the medic. Distraught and lonely, the old man faced the upcoming Christmas holidays with anguish and sadness. The joy of the seasons, that he and his son had so looked forward to, would visit his house no longer. On Christmas morning, a knock on the door awakened the depressed, old man. As he walked to the door, the masterpieces of art on the walls only reminded him that his son was not coming home. As he opened the door, he was greeted by a soldier with a large package in his hands. He introduced himself to the man by saying, "I was a friend of your Son. I was the one he was rescuing when he died. May I come in for a few moments? I have something to show you." As the two began to talk, the soldier told of how the man's son had told everyone of his love of fine art."I am an artist," said the soldier, "and I want to give you this." As the old man unwrapped the package, the paper gave way to reveal a portrait of the man's son. Though the world would never consider it the work of a genius, the painting featured the young man's face in striking detail. Overcome with emotion, the man thanked the soldier, promising to hang the picture above the fireplace. A few hours later, after the soldier departed, the old man set about his task. True to his word, the painting went above the fireplace, pushing aside thousands of dollars worth of art. His task completed, the old man sat in his chair and spent Christmas gazing at the gift he had been given. During the days and weeks that followed, the man realized that even though his son was no longer with him, the boy's life would live on because of those he had touched. He would soon learn that his son had rescued dozens of wounded soldiers before a bullet stilled his caring heart. As the stories of his son's gallantry continued to reach him, the painting of his son soon became his most prized possession, far eclipsing any interest in the pieces for which museums around the world clamored. He told his neighbors it was the greatest gift he had ever received. The following spring, the old man became ill and passed away. The art world was in anticipation, that with the collector's passing, and his only son dead, those paintings would be sold at auction. According to the will of the old man, all of the art works would be auctioned on Christmas Day, the day he had received his greatest gift. That day soon arrived and art collectors from around the world gathered to bid on some of the world's most spectacular paintings. Dreams would be fulfilled that day, greatness would be achieved as many would claim, "I have the greatest collection." The auction began with a painting that was not on any museum's list. It was the painting of the man's son. The auctioneer asked for an opening bid, but the room was silent. "Who will open the bidding with $100 dollars?" he asked. Minutes passed and no one spoke. From the back of the room came a voice, "Who cares about that painting? It's just a picture of his son. Forget about it and move on to the good stuff." More voices echoed in agreement. "No, we have to sell this one first," replied the auctioneer. "Now, who will take the son?" Finally, a neighbor of the old man spoke. "Will you take ten dollars for the painting? That's all I have. I knew the boy, so I'd like to have it." I have ten dollars, will anyone go higher? called the auctioneer. After more silence, the auctioneer said, "Going once, going twice...sold!" The gavel fell. Cheers filled the room and someone exclaimed, "Now we can get on with it and we can bid on the real treasures!" The auctioneer looked at the audience and announced that the auction was over. Stunned disbelief quieted the room. Someone spoke up and asked, "What do you mean, it's over? We didn't come here for a picture of some old guy's son. What about all of these other paintings? There are millions of dollars worth of art here! I demand that you explain what is going on!" The auctioneer replied, "It's very simple. According to the Will of the Father, whoever takes the Son...gets it all." (Just as those art collectors discovered on Christmas Day, the message is still the same. Because of the Love of a Father, whose greatest joy came from his Son, who went away and gave His Life Rescuing Others...Whoever Takes The Son Gets It All.) Submitted By: Susan Hemingway

" Our Blessings In Disguise " A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box anyway and found a Beautiful leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angry, he raised his voice to his father and said,"With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements,he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt. 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?" As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words "PAID IN FULL". Submitted By: Susan Hemingway
