The Naturalization records were set up to record new immigrants living in Upper Canada after the war of 1812 in fear of another war with the United States. In 1828 an act was passed. The men of the family registered after having lived here at least 7 years. People who turned 16 after the 7 years expired were to register within 3 years of their 16th birthday. People from Great Britain were not required to take the oath.
