Hi, I just discovered your webpage. I was very surprised to say the least, when I realized there were so many individuals with the surname "Coffey". My father, Charles Coffey was born in a little community called Angels Cove, Newfoundland. His father's name was also Charles and his mother's name was Margaret Coffey (they were first cousins). They had to have the Bishop's permission to marry. I do know that the first Coffey to settle in Newfoundland, Canada, was a John Coffey from Ireland. This was around the 1850s. Angel's Cove today consists of approximately 13 families of Coffey. You see, From the first time John Coffey resided, there hav only been Coffey's residing in Angel's Cove. Today, there is still only Coffey's residing in this little community, with the exception of a summer cabin built on Cove Road. The gentleman who built this cabin is an American. I realize this comment is a it long, so I apologize for taking up so much space. I am very interested in the surname Coffey. I have many stories about Angel's Cove. i.e How the first Coffey to arrive in Newfoundland came to settle in Angel's Cove. This was told to me by my Grandmother, Margaret Coffey. John Coffey had arrived in Placentia, from Ireland. John had sat on a rock wondering as to where he would go from here. While he was thinking, a rabbit hopped by. John followed this rabbit and eventually came to a cove. The rabbit stopped in a clearin , and John stopped too. John set up residence. This is why the highway leading from Placentia to Angel's Cove has so many hills and sharp turns. This is only one of many stories my Grandmother had told me. Until my Internet is set up on my computer I am using my co-worker's e-mail, with her permission, of course. Thank you, Janet Richards (Coffey)

Our father's name is Perry and I know he has one brother named Art. I'm not sure if he has any other siblings. We l ved all over the country as children, but I think my father's family originated in Kansas. Carol

Hi: A friend found you on the net and sent it to me. I have always wondered where an unusual name like Coffey came from. My maiden name was Coffey and I lived in Kirkland Lake Ont. Canada. My Gramdparemts lived in Mattawa/North Bay Ont. Canada. I know nothing else about them or were in Ireland they came from. Living way up north I thought I was the only Coffey on the face of the earth. Then along came the hockey player from out west. He played for Edmonton and played with the great 99. That was the first time I knew there might be other Coffey,s around. Since then I found out there is quite a few around the world. If you go into http;//ted.gard er.org/coffey.html you will find a whole list of coffey's.
