Junior Girl Scout Troop #588
Parent's Corner

Just in time for the new Girl Scout year, a survival guide for you Moms and Dads! Yes, I know our girls are getting older (and busier!) and I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for making time in your family for Girl Scouts. I have really been looking forward to this year, especially since I discovered other troops on the internet and found out about all the great resources available. Some evening when you have a few minutes to yourself, check out our Webrings and take a look at some of the troops around the world and what they're up to - it's amazing!

Now, on to important matters in Troop 588. I have provided links to some of the following items if you're interested in more information. At our first meeting, the girls will be :

  • choosing our troop crest
  • picking our troop shirt design
  • deciding on our form of troop government

  • Each girl will also receive a troop notebook. Inside you will find:
  • troop calendar for 1999-2000
  • a treat list for the year
  • a copy of the Girl Scout Promise, Law, motto and slogan
  • a list of Junior badges and signs
  • a Junior badge placement guide
  • an explanation of the "Junior Bucks" system

  • Throughout the year, your daughter will add to her notebook as she works on and completes projects both on her own and with the troop. You may expect that the girls will be doing the bulk of the planning and work for our activities - a great part of working with older girls! I will do my best to keep our website updated with our activities as well as providing you with a monthly take-home newsletter.

As we go through the year, I encourage you to call me at any time with questions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Although I am a night shift person, I am a 24 hour a day Mom and I find it is truly amazing the inspirations a lack of sleep can lead to - so don't worry about waking me up! Thanks again to you all for your continued support of our troop!
